Founded in 2015, Hi5 Youth Foundation is a Mumbai-based professionally managed non-profit organization with a mission to revolutionize basketball in I Read morendia at the grassroots level. The foundation operates a multi-level, four-year program providing underprivileged children across Mumbai access to basketball coaching, aiming to spread 'hopes through hoops' and make a positive impact on their lives. With over 4000+ children, 35 centers, and 50+ coaches, Hi5 identifies and nurtures young talent through its flagship program 'Hope Thru Hoops,' spanning Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, and Elite levels. Each center is assigned a dedicated full-time coach following an in-house curriculum co-developed by the coaches and the foundation's leadership. Hi5 conducts regular tests and tournaments to gauge the performance of students, coaches, and centers, ensuring the program's effectiveness in teaching basketball while maintaining an enjoyable experience. The foundation's philosophy focuses on helping children learn essential life skills, fostering a drive for excellence, and promoting gender-neutral participation and respect within the sport. Observations from sports-based programs reflect positive outcomes, including decreased antisocial behavior, goal-oriented lifestyles, improved gender sensitivity, enhanced motor skills and mental growth, increased school enrollment and participation, adoption of healthier lifestyles, better decision-making, and informed choices about the future. The organization believes in basketball's suitability for India due to its cost-effectiveness, space efficiency, and high energy. The sport contributes to physical wellness, mental health, and social collaboration, emphasizing teamwork towards a common goal that uplifts morale.

Programs

  • Hope Thru Hoops

Hi5 Youth Foundation operates the "Hope Thru Hoops," the largest year-round grassroots basketball development program by an NGO. This free multi-year, multi-level basketball excellence initiative is designed for children in tribal/urban slum areas. The program offers opportunities for excellence and fostering character, confidence, and courage, acts as a game changer for the sport and a life changer for the participating children.

Structured as a multi-year rigorous training program, "Hope thru Hoops" follows a progression system akin to a school system, where children graduate from one level to another, enhancing their skills over time. The organization builds basketball courts in tribal and slum areas, intending to sustain the flagship program for the next 10-15 years in a particular location, providing children and communities an alternative pathway to success through sports.

  • Pathways To Success

Initiated in 2018, Hi 5 Youth Foundation's 'Pathway to Success' program serves as an education and counseling support initiative, complementing the flagship 'Hope Thru Hoops' basketball excellence program. While the core basketball program instills confidence and exposure through tournaments and clinics, the Pathways program is tailored to offer skill-based assistance, empowering children's aspirations for a successful future.

Specifically designed for disadvantaged children aged 16-19 years, who might otherwise have dropped out to engage in manual labor, this program strives to provide them with the right guidance and opportunities to complete higher education and pursue successful careers in life. The mission of the program is to ensure that all disadvantaged children in the Hi 5 program pass their HSC (12th Std) and continue to aspire for a better future.

  • Tournaments

Over the past few years, witnessing the growth and development of the children, particularly the Hi 5 girls, has been remarkable. Not only have they improved their basketball skills, but they have also discovered their identity and capabilities. Through hard work and guidance, they have come to realize that while nothing is easy, everything is possible.

The winning moments in tournaments have instilled self-confidence and belief in the children, empowering them to envision a new trajectory in life.
