About
“Education is not preparation for life, education is life itself" -John Dewey Every day, several million children wake up, get ready for their day, Read moresome children go to school, their parents pack lunch for them, drop them to the school or arrange means of transport, yet there are thousands of children who can only imagine what it would be like to go to school, meet other children or put very simply, “what would it feel like to just be a child” because a lot of them lend a hand in their parent’s work, parent’s who have difficulties making ends meet, these children spend their entire childhood in this imagination and eventually never get a good education. This is despite the fact that Education is the fundamental right of all children by birth. The Section 12(1)(c) of the RIght to Education (RTE) Act reserves 25 % of all seats in private unaided schools for children from socio-economically disadvantaged background. In the State of Uttar Pradesh alone there are 5,72,672 such seats out of which 93% all left vacant every year, NINETY THREE PERCENT VACANT ! Sounds unnerving? It is, indeed, but just like Rome was not built in a day, even this crisis did not surface overnight. This is the effect of the compounding of vicious cycles of policy implementation and technological challenges, the receiving end of which are small souls who if given an equal opportunity at education have the potential to be no less than Dr APJ Abdul Kalam. However, there is a silver lining in the form of multiple organisations working in collaboration to help better implement the RTE act in Uttar Pradesh. One such organisation is Saaras foundation, which since 2016 has supported 54,282 families out of which 16,965 children are studying in private schools this year, plan to reach out to over hundred thousand families. But to do this, they need your help. It takes only INR 500 to help a child get a shot at getting a good education and change the standard of living of their future generations forever. Your contribution will help create an inclusive society. If you would like to know more about the RTE Act and Saaras foundation’s efforts in Uttar Pradesh, give them a missed call on 011-41132701 and they will call you back :) And if you can, pass this number on to a family in need and the Saaras helpline team will support the family get access to the Right to Education
