The Association for Disabled People (ADP) is an NGO in India dedicated to supporting individuals with disabilities for over 18 years. It was establish Read moreed under the Society Act in 2002 to address the lack of basic facilities accessible to people with disabilities from government initiatives. ADP believes in the right of individuals with disabilities to lead fulfilling lives and contribute to society. It focuses on various sectors such as academics, sports, vocational training, and other areas less explored, aiming to bring inclusivity and dignity to those it supports. The organisation is committed to sustaining its efforts and has successfully implemented projects to assist various types of disabilities and the underprivileged. ADP conducts numerous social activities and advocacy programs for people with disabilities, including workshops, awareness camps, and community-based meetings. The NGO offers free counseling and guidance to individuals with disabilities, organizes conferences, meetings, and awards ceremonies. Moreover, it works towards enhancing accessibility in the built environment and information and communication technology (ICT). ADP also promotes accessible tourism, para sports, cultural activities, inclusive education for children with disabilities, and empowers women with disabilities.

General Programmes
The organisation conducts Access Audits for over 350 buildings and focuses on capacity building, awareness campaigns, and community meetings. It has deeply engaged in developing Para Sports since 2006, collaborating with foundations. It hosts a counselling centre and assists with various passes and identity cards. Additionally, it advocates for women's rights, provides legal guidance, conducts assessment camps, and facilitates cultural activities for PwDs. ADP also aids in private sector employment and undertakes annual tree plantation drives for environmental conservation.

Disability Centered Programmes
The Association for Disabled People actively hosts events like the International Excellence Awards for Service to Disabilities, the India-Afghanistan DPOs summit, and the Republic Day Parade participation. Advocacy efforts influenced policies, including disability chapters in plans, new laws, and Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act amendments. It improved public infrastructure accessibility, organised workshops, advocated for the Disability Rights Bill, and children's inclusion in education laws, and held meetings for women with disabilities. ADP actively participates in national/international sports conferences with various entities.

National & International Programmes
The Association for Disabled People actively represents India in global disability forums. ADP participated in significant events like the "World Assemble for Women with Disability" in Seoul, the UNESCO International Conference on ICTs for Persons with Disabilities, and regional workshops for capacity building. Its General Secretary contributed to policy development for youth affairs, sports, and disability rights in the 12th Five-Year Plan. ADP's involvement extends to advocating for women's rights, accelerating the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, and contributing to state consultations for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, emphasizing its commitment to national and international disability advocacy.

Sports Promotion Programmes
The Association for Disabled People has actively promoted Paralympic sports in India since 2006, striving to raise awareness about these sports. It organised the National Paralympic Table Tennis Championship over several years in collaboration with the Indian Para Table Tennis Federation. ADP's involvement in the Steering Committee of the 12th Five Year Plan for Youth Affairs & Sports marked the first inclusion of disability in such a committee. Notably, it organised the first international tournament between India and Bangladesh in 2017, alongside numerous national and state tournaments for Wheelchair Cricket. In 2018, the Indian Wheelchair Cricket Team celebrated a historic victory against Bangladesh in the India-Bangladesh Wheelchair Cricket Series, supported by cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar. Furthermore, ADP collaborated for the "India-Pakistan T-20 Wheelchair Cricket Series" in Dubai, where the Indian team secured a 3-0 victory against Pakistan.

COVID - 19 Response Programme
COVID-19 has brought unprecedented challenges, particularly impacting the lives and livelihoods of people globally, including those with disabilities. The pandemic has affected countless lives in India, especially those who rely on others for support. Many disabled individuals, including athletes, have faced unemployment or loss of daily wages during these tough times. To aid those economically affected, the Association for Disabled People initiated a "COVID Relief Food Kit" distribution, providing essential support to over 750 individuals with disabilities. These kits contain dry rations, masks, and sanitisers, aiming to alleviate the hardships faced by this vulnerable group due to the lockdown.
