Mitigating Human-Elephant Conflict
KANS, concerned about the escalating human-elephant conflict in the Melagiris region, acknowledges the significance of elephants as the flagship species in the area. The organization recognizes that migration and crop raiding, often spurred by habitat degradation, have led to varying patterns of conflict. To address this issue, KANS has been actively involved in surveying elephant-proof trenches in the Jowlagiri range over the past two years, providing detailed reports to the forest department. Additionally, KANS has undertaken efforts to analyze crop-compensation data spatially, revealing a concerning trend of worsening human-elephant conflict even in areas distant from continuous forest patches.

Protecting And Conserving The Forests
The Kenneth Anderson Nature Society (KANS) is driven by its primary mission to advocate for the establishment of the Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary (CWS) in Tamil Nadu, encompassing the biodiverse forest tracts along the northern banks of the Cauvery River. Recognizing the challenges inherent in such a campaign, KANS actively engages with stakeholders to garner support for the creation of this sanctuary, which requires governmental determination, administrative willingness, and public backing. Many of KANS's projects and initiatives are strategically aligned to further this central mission. Notably, on May 2nd, 2013, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa announced the establishment of the Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary, and on February 24th, 2014, the Government of Tamil Nadu officially declared a significant portion of reserve forests as the Cauvery North Wildlife Sanctuary. KANS continues its efforts to expand the sanctuary's boundaries to include additional forested areas north of the Cauvery River
