Programs

  • Women Development Programme

Since its establishment, MSS has been dedicatedly engaged in a Women Development Programme aimed at uplifting women, particularly from the lower strata of society. Recognizing the dual challenges of financial crisis and lack of awareness faced by these women, MSS initiated the Mahila Mandal (women's group) as a platform empowering them to overcome adversities. Currently, with a growing membership of 4200, MSS continually undertakes diverse projects each year. These projects focus on fostering financial self-dependence among women, enabling them to provide support to their families, and elevating their awareness levels in various aspects of life.

  • Child Development Programme

MSS recognizes the vital role children play in shaping the nation's future and strives to create a conducive environment for their proper upbringing. Rural areas often neglect this aspect, with impoverished parents resorting to placing their children in menial jobs, depriving them of essential educational opportunities. To address this issue, MSS, in financial collaboration with SMILE FOUNDATION, operates Pratham Alo, a preprimary school dedicated to the children of the working class. This initiative offers free education and education kits to children below six years, with 159 students enrolled in the 2019-2020 academic year. With the assistance of six appointed teachers, the school employs a play-way method to provide elementary education, working towards breaking the cycle of limited opportunities for these young learners.

  • Health, Hygiene & Sanitation Programme

MSS acknowledges the significance of preventive measures in mitigating health hazards prevalent among rural communities. Recognizing that diseases like dysentery and cholera are water-borne, MSS emphasizes the importance of safe drinking water and advises against the consumption of fast food and cut fruits. Additionally, for mosquito-borne diseases such as malaria and dengue, MSS advocates preventive measures like using mosquito nets, wearing full-sleeve shirts, and employing mosquito-resistant oil and coils. Furthermore, MSS actively promotes awareness about maintaining cleanliness to prevent diseases that can be avoided through hygienic practices. Through these initiatives, MSS endeavours to enhance the understanding of rural communities in preventing the onset of various health issues.

  • Disaster Response Programmes

MSS serves as a beacon of hope and trust for the people in its project area, offering assistance during both natural disasters and personal crises. Whether facing challenges like floods, droughts, earthquakes, or individual struggles such as arranging a daughter's marriage or funding a child's higher education, the community turns to MSS for financial help and guidance. Despite its limited resources, MSS consistently endeavours to aid individuals in overcoming these crises. During the Covid-19 outbreak and the subsequent prolonged lockdown, MSS extended support to the marginalized community, severely impacted by the devastating cyclone Amphan. MSS remains committed to helping rebuild communities and safeguarding their minimal life resources in times of need.

  • Sports & Youth Development Programmes

MSS, acknowledging the potency of youth, encourages their development through sports and physical activities within its capacity. Initiatives in 2018-2019 included six one-day football tournaments, providing a platform for local sports club recruitment. MSS, in collaboration with the Sports & Youth Department, Govt. of West Bengal, established a multi-gym centre with 54 local youth members. A Yoga Awareness Camp, financially supported by Nehru Yuva Kendra, highlighted the holistic benefits of Yoga. These efforts aim to empower and channel the youth for the betterment of the community, fostering physical fitness and overall well-being.
