Record the cultural resources and any unprotected structures from an archaeological, architectural, historic, or aesthetic standpoint. This is the first stage in creating conservation strategies. Create laws and policies pertaining to heritage, and when needed, take legal action to safeguard India's cultural heritage. Offer knowledge in the areas of conservation, restoration, and preservation of particular artworks; additionally, promote capacity-building by fostering the development of skills via training initiatives. When a natural or man-made disaster strikes, take immediate action to protect the environment and assist the local government in protecting cultural assets. Encourage cooperation, memorandums of understanding (MoU), and alliances with the government and other domestic and foreign organizations. Obtain funding for initiatives related to education and conservation.

INTACH's mission is to conserve heritage based on the belief that living in harmony with heritage enhances quality of life, and it is the duty of every Indian citizen to protect it as laid down in the Constitution of India.

INTACH has grown to over 228 Chapters across India and received special consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council in 2007.
