This project aims to educate the less fortunate children in Kolkata's many communities, thereby bringing about a social and economic revolution. It is Read more an attempt to uplift, educate, and improve the lives of underprivileged kids who are currently residing in Kolkata's slums. At the school, breakfast and lunch are free of charge. The school also places a strong emphasis on extracurricular activities for the kids, such as theatre, sports, and career training. is to change the lives of these kids involved in child labour so they can become self-sufficient, well-rounded, and ambitious individuals who will also positively influence their social environment. Becoming a model school that integrates "literacy into learning" is Ek Prayaas' stated goal.

In September 2004, Ek Prayaas started with a group of 12 children taught by two adults, and has since grown to house the entire primary section from Lower Nursery to Class 5, achieving full attendance of learners from underprivileged homes.
