Idhayangal Charitable Trust was founded in 2004 by a group of Indian doctors working in the UK. The organization aims to provide medical aid to underp Read morerivileged individuals, especially children, in India. The four founding trustees were Dr. Krishnan Swaminathan, Dr. Suresh Mathavakannan, Dr. Sabapathy Prakash, and Dr. Nambi, all of whom were consultants in the UK. The trust began with just ₹800 and, by 2011, had completed projects worth ₹80 lakhs in India. After the managing trustee, Dr. Krishnan Swaminathan, relocated to India, Idhayangal UK was dissolved in 2011. Inspired by seven years of impactful projects, the Idhayangal team continues its work in India, ensuring that every rupee is dedicated to our initiatives.

The trust provides support to underprivileged children with Type 1 diabetes, including insulin, consumables, glucometers, insulin pumps, health insurance, education, and rehabilitation.

As of 2024, Idhayangal has supported 2257 underprivileged children with Type 1 diabetes across 20 government hospitals from Delhi to Kanyakumari, resulting in a 95% reduction in hospital admissions with diabetic emergencies and mortality.

The trust's mission is to ensure that no poor child with Type 1 diabetes suffers or dies for want of funds or support to buy insulins, consumables, insulin pumps, or education.

Madhuram Diabetes and Thyroid Centre
MDTC (Madhuram Diabetes and Thyroid Centre) is a visionary project by Idhayangal Charitable Trust, aimed at providing high-quality, affordable care for diabetes, thyroid, and hormone-related conditions to all segments of society. Under the leadership of Dr. Krishnan Swaminathan, who has 25 years of clinical experience, MDTC features state-of-the-art lab facilities that serve everyone, with a special focus on the underprivileged.
Milestones & Track Record
By 2024, Idhayangal had distributed 1.3 lacs high-quality insulin cartridges, 2257 glucometers, 24 lacs glucose strips, 12 lacs ultrafine painfree needles, 220 insulin pumps, and supported 100 underprivileged girls with Type 1 diabetes for school and college education.
