The Academy was founded b Read morey some of Indian badminton's most distinguished figures: the legendary Prakash Padukone, Dronacharya Award winner and former national coach Vimal Kumar, and Vivek Kumar. Recognized as a National Centre of Excellence (NCOE) for badminton coaching by the Ministry of Sports, Government of India, Sports Authority of India (SAI), and the Badminton Association of India (BAI), PPBA collaborates closely with these bodies to nurture players of international caliber. Over its 25+ years of existence, PPBA has gained a nationwide reputation for producing successive generations of world-class badminton players, including Olympians, Arjuna Award recipients, and Commonwealth Games and other international titleholders.

Clinics and Exchange Programmes
The Academy has welcomed teams and players from various countries, including Denmark, England, Scotland, Canada, Malaysia, Indonesia, Belgium, Mauritius, Sri Lanka, and the Czech Republic.
It maintains an informal partnership with the Aarhus Badminton Centre in Denmark, led by former World No. 1 Morton Frost. A similar collaboration exists with Badminton England in Milton Keynes.
In 2006-07, the Academy hosted coaching clinics for coaches from across Asia, organized under the auspices of the Asian Badminton Confederation.
