Lighthouse Communities Foundation (LCF) is on a mission to build empowered communities through life-skills, employment and entrepreneurship opportunit Read moreies for a million disadvantaged youth across India. Throughout a young person's association with the Lighthouse, they are offered one-to-one support to build their confidence and acquire skills required to make their career dream come true.
Issue
1) Insufficient data on unemployed, underserved youth from low-income communities, coupled with isolated efforts of different organisations impedes effective interventions in skill development and livelihood generation programs 2) There is a lack of awareness about available interventions for career guidance for youth, as well as limited knowledge about vocational skilling courses. 3) Lack of decision-making ability, role models, and awareness of career options, leading to hopelessness and low self-confidence among youth from underserved communities. This, compounded by negative perceptions of the formal sector, exacerbates unemployment rates among young people. 4) There is a mismatch between the demand for youth in job placements and the availability of suitable job opportunities, leading to a low retention rate in the workforce.
Action
1) Community Outreach - We target a minimum of 25% of the total households in each slum community to be enrolled. 2) Rhythm & Foundational Skilling - Foundational Course for self-discovery and Spoken English and Digital Empowerment Courses to build workplace competencies for enhanced employability. 3) Counselling - Career counselling to help the young person find her/ his path to full potential and ‘freedom of choice’. 4) Vocational Skilling - 50+ in-demand vocational skilling courses are offered through skilling partners across the city. 5) Placement - Pre-placement coaching, CV making, mock interviews and family counselling after the job offer & entrepreneurship support. 6) Alumni Support - When the youth join a workplace, we offer them constant support to adapt to the corporate culture and help them face workplace challenges.
