People for Animals (PFA) is a major volunteer organisation in India, committed to promoting animal welfare and enforcing animal rights. As the country Read more’s largest not-for-profit group in this field, it protects animal laws and ensures animal justice. PFA takes a structured approach, using negotiation, education, awareness, and legal action to address various animal welfare issues. The organisation’s work includes rescuing, rehabilitating, and providing medical care to domestic animals that are sick, injured, or abused, as well as arranging for their adoption or fostering. It also rescues wild animals, returns them to their habitats, investigates cruelty cases, and prosecutes wildlife trade violations. Additionally, PFA offers support for cases of severe animal neglect and promotes kindness through public awareness campaigns and training. Its efforts extend to running shelters, providing ambulances, advocating for animal rights in legal matters, and educating the public. Recognised internationally, PFA was honoured with the Padma Shri Award in 2001 and is a key player in global animal welfare.

Operation Karuna
On June 4th, Team PFA rescued 87 camels being illegally transported to Hyderabad for meat. Approximately 90% of the camels were suffering from dehydration, malnutrition, and maggot-infested injuries. An FIR was filed against the camel handlers, and following a brief legal battle, the court awarded custody of the animals to PFA. Arrangements are now being made to transport the camels back to Rajasthan.

Domestic And Wildlife Rescue Activities
Domestic efforts focus on rescuing and rehabilitating sick, injured, and abused animals, as well as facilitating the fostering and adoption of orphaned and abandoned pets. Over 15 years, more than 10,000 animals have been rescued and provided with safe homes. Programs include Animal Birth Control and Anti-Rabies vaccinations. In wildlife conservation, the organization rescues and rehabilitates various animals, from elephants to snakes, aiming to prevent illegal trading and release confiscated animals back into the wild after treatment.
