  • Since

    2013

Step Up For India began when several volunteers, responding to requests from local government schools, came together to address a common challenge: te Read moreaching English effectively. Despite the volunteers' dedication, individual efforts failed to make a significant impact due to varied teaching methods and the students' limited reading abilities, often below their grade level. Recognizing a deeper need, Step Up For India developed a structured curriculum focused on simplicity and engagement, tailored to both students’ needs and volunteers’ constraints. The organization introduced a unique “Volunteer Team Teaching” model, which allows volunteers with limited time to make meaningful contributions. Since launching its flagship English program in 2013-2014, Step Up For India has empowered countless students to become confident, self-sufficient learners. This impactful approach fosters a love for learning and helps students progress far beyond traditional limitations.

Vision & Mission

Programs

  • SatH-DO (Study at Home – Digital Outreach) Program

The SatH-DO program empowers children from low-resource backgrounds to continue learning at home, especially during and beyond the COVID-19 pandemic. By encouraging family involvement, even for non-English speakers, this initiative fosters a supportive learning environment. Its bilingual, colorful books are designed to help children build foundational English vocabulary, reading, and speaking skills through engaging activities. Embedded audio tracks simulate classroom learning, making education accessible in any setting. Volunteers and private tutors can easily facilitate learning sessions with SatH-DO’s TLM packets, making this program a scalable, impactful solution for children’s education.

  • Textbook Augmentation Program

The Teacher Assistance Program (TAP) supports government primary school teachers in teaching English to grades 3 to 7. It offers practical methods aligned with the government-issued textbooks, helping teachers enhance their skills while teaching. TAP includes GET-Videos, accessible through QR codes, which present animated, bilingual video lessons for students, explaining difficult words and reinforcing comprehension. Currently available in Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, and Maharashtra as K-GET, C-GET, and M-GET, respectively, these videos cater to local needs. TAP also includes the Teacher Empowerment Program (TEP), providing audio pronunciation support and a resource book with translations and lesson explanations for grades 1 to 7.

Milestones & Track Record

They have partnered with the Department of Education in Karnataka to deliver remedial assistance, resources and training to make learning more effective in government schools.
