Maruti Suzuki India Limited was established in 1981, following a joint venture agreement between the Government of India and Suzuki Motor Corporation Read more (SMC), Japan, in 1982. The Company became a subsidiary of SMC in 2002. Today, it is SMC's largest subsidiary in terms of production volume and sales, with SMC holding a 58.19% equity stake. As a public limited company, its shares are actively traded on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).

Maruti Suzuki leads the passenger vehicle (PV) market in India and is also the country’s largest exporter of PVs. In FY 2023-24, the Company achieved a significant milestone, recording its highest-ever total sales by surpassing 2 million units—a first for any PV manufacturer in India.

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
Maruti Suzuki’s CSR initiatives focus on creating social value for local communities and society as a whole. The Company undertakes projects in key areas such as road safety, skill development, and community development. These initiatives are aligned with the Company’s resources, expertise, and the needs of the communities where it operates. By focusing on a select number of impactful projects rather than dispersing resources across many, Maruti Suzuki ensures meaningful and lasting benefits for its beneficiaries.

The Company’s CSR activities are overseen by a dedicated CSR Committee, which regularly monitors and reviews projects to assess their impact. Additionally, impact assessments for flagship projects are conducted through external agencies to ensure transparency and effectiveness.

    Description

    The Company undertakes a variety of community development initiatives in villages near its facilities to enhance the quality of life for local communities. These projects are designed to address specific needs in areas such as healthcare, education, water, sanitation, and community infrastructure.

    * Multispecialty Hospital, Sitapur, Gujarat - The Multispecialty Hospital in Sitapur provides comprehensive healthcare services, equipped with state-of-the-art medical facilities and 24/7 specialized care. Key clinical specialties include General Medicine, Orthopedics, Trauma Care, Gynecology, Urology, Nephrology, and Dialysis. Recognized for its high standards of care, the hospital is accredited by NABH (National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers) and holds a gold quality certification from the Quality Council of India.

    * Maruti Suzuki Podar Learn School, Sitapur, Gujarat - The Maruti Suzuki Podar Learn School focuses on the holistic development of children. Spanning 4.45 acres, the school features modern facilities, including a multi-sports playground with dedicated spaces for tennis, badminton, basketball, and more.

    * Village Development Project - The Company’s village development initiatives focus on critical areas such as water, sanitation, health, education, and community infrastructure. Village-specific development plans are implemented in a phased manner to ensure the holistic growth of these communities, aiming to significantly improve the quality of life for residents.

  • Skill Development

    Description

    The Company recognizes the importance of skilled manpower for the competitiveness and sustained growth of India’s manufacturing sector. To address this need, Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has launched several initiatives, including the establishment of the Japan-India Institute for Manufacturing (JIM) under the Indo-Japan collaboration and the support and upgradation of government and private Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs).

    Japan-India Institute for Manufacturing (JIM) - The Japan-India Institute for Manufacturing is a flagship skill development initiative offering vocational training programs. It exemplifies the collaborative efforts of the Indian and Japanese governments to foster skill development and excellence in the manufacturing sector. The Company has established three JIMs—two in Gujarat and one in Haryana—and is planning a fourth JIM in Haryana during the reporting period.

    Upgradation of Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) - The Company actively upgrades existing government ITIs by setting up industry-relevant skill labs and providing specialized training for students and instructors. These labs include safety training and Maruti Suzuki Basic Training (MSBT) labs, designed to prepare students for production-line roles. During the reporting period, six new skill labs were established, training approximately 12,000 students and 350 ITI instructors.

    Support for Tathagat ITI - Maruti Suzuki supports the Tathagat ITI in Darhia village, Mirzapur district, Uttar Pradesh, with the goal of enhancing job skills among local tribal youth. This initiative fosters socio-economic development by providing training and employment opportunities to underprivileged communities. Additionally, the Company has constructed a hostel complex for the ITI’s students and staff.

    Apprenticeship Program - Under its apprenticeship program, the Company trained over 3,300 ITI students at its manufacturing facilities during the reporting period. Trainees received hands-on experience along with a monthly stipend, preparing them for careers in the manufacturing sector.

  • Road Safety

    Description

    In its commitment to enhancing road safety, the Company has launched several long-term initiatives in partnership with government authorities to improve road safety standards across India. Key programs include the establishment of the Institute for Driving and Traffic Research (IDTR) and Road Safety Knowledge Centres (RSKC), as well as the development of Automated Driving Test Tracks (ADTT) at driving license centers in collaboration with state governments.

    Institute of Driving and Traffic Research (IDTR)
    The Company has set up eight IDTRs and 23 RSKCs in partnership with six state governments to provide advanced driver training and road safety education. These centers focus on fostering safe driving practices and raising awareness about traffic regulations.

    Automated Driving Test Tracks (ADTT)
    To ensure only skilled drivers are granted licenses, the Company has established Automated Driving Test Tracks at license-issuing centers in Delhi, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh. These tracks are equipped with high-definition cameras for real-time recording of driving tests and use analytical tools for transparent and efficient assessment. This initiative aims to improve the rigor and fairness of the licensing process, contributing to safer roads.
