DescriptionThe Aurobindo Pharma Foundation (APF), in collaboration with the Hare Krishna Movement Charitable Foundation (HKMCF), established a solar-powered, automated, centralised kitchen in Perumallapuram village, Kakinada district, Andhra Pradesh. This kitchen prepares and distributes breakfast meals daily free of cost to nearby government schools.
The initiative primarily supports students from fishermen communities who often arrive at school late or on empty stomachs due to their parents' early work schedules. To address this, the breakfast meals are designed to be both filling and nutrient-rich, with a focus on incorporating millets to ensure a balanced diet.
To maintain food quality, meals are distributed in insulated vessels via dedicated distribution vehicles, ensuring they reach students at the optimal temperature. Initially serving 41 schools, the program has now expanded to benefit 46 schools in the region.CauseNutritionDemographicsChildrenstudents from fishermen communityImpactStudents receive nutritious, free breakfast meals daily 5,460 -
