The flagship programme “Holistic Education Initiative” (under our Education Pillar) has scaled rapidly – growing from 2 blind schools in 2022-23 to 4 schools in 2023-24, 10 schools in 2024-25 and currently 18 blind schools across Karnataka, Kerala, and Maharashtra, impacting over 800 children. The programme will be expanded to 25 schools impacting 1,100+ children in 2026–27.
The programme is designed to nurture self-expression, agency, confidence, mobility, and self-esteem among blind and visually impaired children in blind schools. It delivers six core components—EquiSpeak (communication skills), Digital Literacy, EquiSports, Health & Hygiene, Psycho-social Support and EquiTrain (Teacher Capacity Building). EquiBeing’s Cluster Resource Persons and Facilitators collaborate closely with schools to ensure effective implementation of the five student-centric components. -

The other key programme EquiFloat – “Swimming for the Blind”, which began as a focused intervention on water safety and confidence, quickly expanded into a recognised sports and psychosocial empowerment programme. Through short 12‑day adaptive swimming camps across Karnataka, Kerala, and Maharashtra—supported by a Train the Trainer (TTT) model for swimming coaches—EquiBeing has trained 320 children and youth with VI so far, and supported them to win 32 state‑level and 8 national‑level medals in para‑swimming. The TTT programme has already built the capacity of 120–150 coaches and is projected to enable 3,000 blind children and youth to be trained in swimming over the next two years, illustrating how EquiBeing uses multipliers to scale impact.

Impact
EquiBeing transforms blind schools into centers of excellence, boosting enrolment and upgrading infrastructure with government support—like turning a key Mysuru school into a model hub. Their Holistic Education Initiative equips teachers and students with aspiration-building skills, overcoming poor academics and outdated teaching. Through EquiFloat swimming camps, children and youth gain confidence, resilience, and social inclusion, earning competitive medals and forging national partnerships that challenge stereotypes of incapacity. The livelihood skills pilot partners with corporates to deliver digital literacy, adaptive tech training, and job placements, opening doors to employment and independence for unemployed youth. Research on banking access, swimming benefits, and perceptions drives mindset shifts via campus campaigns and social media, while advocacy secures policy wins and MoUs with central and state governments. With a highly qualified team—including blind members with lived experience—EquiBeing has empowered thousands of participants across multiple states, creating multipliers for sustained change and proving blindness need not limit potential.
