Bihar Voluntary Health Association (BVHA) is a non-profit organization established in 1969 that works to promote community health with the aim of 'Hea Read morelth for all' for underprivileged communities through voluntary action in Bihar and Jharkhand.
Action
BVHA operates through a state-wide network of 129 member organizations and 300 associated organizations to implement health programs, conduct trainings, and carry out advocacy on issues like maternal health, malnutrition, reproductive health, menstrual hygiene, and child marriage.

Support to Immediate Needs
StateWith support and collaboration with Goonj, BVHA has distributed ration and other essential commodities kits among flood victims, along with sitting cushions and school bags for school-going and Anganwadi children to address the immediate needs of the marginalized and vulnerable communities. It also helps villagers to clean ponds, drains, and other conservation activities.

Mobile Health Centre
With the support of Americares India Foundation, BVHA is providing immediate medical services to the rural and urban poor to address their health needs and early screening for diabetes and hypertension. Under the project, the body vitals of people are screened, and attempts are made to raise health consciousness among the masses, so they demand better health services from the government as their right. In one of its impacts, this project lessens the dependence of the rural people on quacks.

Kshamta Kendra
StateBVHA has been appointed by National AIDS Control Organization (NACO), Government of India, as Regional Training Institute under Kshamta Kendra for Bihar, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh states. Under this project, BVHA coordinates with State AIDS Control Societies of these states and conducts training of TI and LWS staff on HIV/AIDS.

StateCharitable hospitals in Bihar are being strengthened for respiratory and emergency healthcare services. Under this technical training is provided to doctors, technicians and other relevant hospital staff on respiratory and emergency care.

Cataract Operation Camps
BVHA conducts community mobilization and awareness campaigns before organizing screening camps to identify cataract and refractive error patients. After identification, patients are transported to the base hospital for cataract surgeries following safety protocols, and they are then returned home. The project also emphasizes post-surgery follow-up.

Coalition against Human Trafficking
BVHA plays a crucial role in the Collective Coalition against Human Trafficking (CCHT) in Bihar. The project involves organizing meetings of the CCHT core committee and district-level core committees to engage with government authorities and stakeholders working on child protection and combating child trafficking. BVHA has also established four Action Against Human Trafficking (AHT) clubs in collaboration with students from high schools and colleges at Xavier's Institute of Management and Technology, Patna Women's College, BIT Meshra, and Patna University's Department of Social Work, each comprising 15 to 20 students guided by a mentor teacher.

In its 46-year history, BVHA has consistently worked to make affordable and quality health services available to disadvantaged sections, developed model health programs, and emerged as a key capacity building institution for health organizations in Bihar.
