Established in 1914 by Indian Doctors led by figures such as Dr. Rai Sahib Attar Chand, Dr. M. A. Ansari, and Dr. S.P Shroff, the Delhi Medical Associ Read moreation (DMA) is India's oldest professional organization for modern medical professionals. Formed during the First World War, it initially had 28 practitioners, with 23 attending the inaugural meeting. Since then, it has grown significantly, currently boasting over 15,000 members as of 2020. DMA's inception predated the national Indian Medical Association (IMA). It has focused on advancing medical sciences, improving public health and medical education, and upholding the dignity of the medical profession. Over the years, DMA has evolved into a prominent platform, actively involved in mass-scale vaccinations, health camps, polio eradication initiatives, blood donation drives, anti-quackery campaigns, conferences, and COVID-19 vaccination efforts. The association has decentralized its operations across its thirteen branches in Delhi, devoting itself to health policy work, collaborating with the Delhi government, national and international health agencies, and health associations. DMA's headquarters are situated in the walled city area, serving as a hub for its multifaceted health initiatives and policy endeavours. The Association is established with the following objectives: a) Advancing medical and allied sciences across various branches and enhancing public health and medical education. b) Upholding the dignity and honour of the medical profession while fostering cooperation among its members. c) Striving to eliminate compartmentalism in contemporary medical education, medical services, and registration, aiming to ensure equality among all professionals in the field.
