The Indian Environmental Society (IES) is dedicated to advancing a range of environmental initiatives in India. These encompass Environmental Educatio Read moren, Biodiversity Conservation, Information Dissemination, Solid Waste Management, Eco-Technology, and Heritage Conservation, with Environmental Education serving as the cornerstone of their programmes. It is resolutely committed to fostering a development framework centred on ecological sustainability, self-sufficiency, and equitable resource allocation. Its mission includes promoting eco-technology for efficient resource utilization, executing pilot projects to showcase viable development options, providing environmental training and research, and advocating community-driven socio-economic and sustainable development. Moreover, It actively disseminates information, conducts workshops and conferences, champions gender equality, combats child labour, and encourages social harmony. Collaborating with like-minded institutions, it takes a leadership role in addressing critical environmental challenges, progressing from local to global solutions. Through community-based efforts, IES raises environmental awareness and strives to influence policy formulation, with a focus on engaging and educating the wider populace, including youth and students.

Global Warming & Climate Change Programme
The Indian Environmental Society (IES) is actively engaged in addressing global warming and climate change-related challenges. Recognizing the profound impact of climate change on Earth's ecosystems, including biodiversity and wetlands, IES emphasizes the need for urgent attention and innovative solutions. It promotes people's participation in activities related to climate change, biodiversity conservation, and wetland protection. IES conducts seminars and campaigns to identify the reasons for climate change, highlight the role of human activities, assess the impact on wetlands and biodiversity, and seek solutions. It aims to encourage global collaboration, knowledge sharing, and research in the field of Earth science and climate change. Additionally, IES runs various programmes, including environmental education, awareness campaigns, capacity building, research, and advocacy, with a focus on sustainability, equity, and community engagement.

National Workshops Programme
The Indian Environmental Society (IES) has been actively involved in organising various events and seminars on environmental issues. These include a conference on Earth Science and Climate Change Research in 2011, an exhibition in Goa in 2011, and a seminar on Biodiversity, Wetlands, and Climate Change in 2010. IES also conducted a series of seminars on "People's Agenda on Climate Change" in different locations. It organised a Youth Forum on Climate Change in 2009, focusing on raising awareness among young people. Additionally, IES has been engaged in discussions and seminars on topics like resettlement and rehabilitation policies, participatory Panchayats, micro-planning, financial powers, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable management of wetlands, among others. These initiatives aim to address various environmental challenges and promote awareness and action in collaboration with different stakeholders.

Environmental Health Programme
IES is actively engaged in addressing environmental health concerns, recognizing the critical link between human well-being and the environment. Its focus includes assessing and mitigating the physical, chemical, biological, and social factors that impact human health. It emphasizes the importance of sustainable development and its connection to a healthy population, with a particular focus on vulnerable groups like women, children, people with disabilities, the elderly, and indigenous communities. IES seeks to integrate health considerations into poverty eradication and sustainable development strategies, with a goal to reduce respiratory diseases and health impacts from air pollution. Additionally, it provides targeted health awareness and training programmes in various environmental health areas to address the growing challenges posed by urbanization, deforestation, industrial pollution, and emerging diseases.

Scientific Publications
IES is actively involved in publishing a variety of books and reports covering crucial environmental topics such as forestry, biodiversity conservation, sustainable development, global warming, and more. It has produced publications like "Biodiversity and Conservation of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants" and "Conservation and Sustainable Use of Water Resources." Furthermore, the society disseminates numerous reports, documents, and monographs, including those from conferences, workshops, and research studies, which are shared with interested organisations. Additionally, IES conducts awareness events like Energy Day and Science Day to educate school students and the broader public about environmental issues.

Community Participation Programme
IES has recognized that for sustainable development, it's essential to involve and mobilize communities, fostering self-confidence among people to initiate positive changes. To achieve community participation and mobilization, IES has undertaken projects that provide training and demonstrations to engage local populations and showcase the viability of alternative technologies. Among these projects is the initiative addressing Solid Waste Management in Puri, a city known for its vibrant festivals and tourist attractions. With the support of European partners, IES aims to enhance waste management, improve environmental quality, and engage the local population in efficient waste collection and recycling practices. It has conducted awareness programmes, training sessions, and community meetings, involving school children and community members. These efforts seek to create a cleaner, healthier environment for both residents and tourists, aligning with the goals of sustainable development.
