The Nutrition foundation of India strives to improve the nutritional status of Indians by conducting research on major nutritional problems. It also c Read moreonducts research to operationalize proven interventions to improve nutritional status in national programs. The foundation evaluates the national nutrition programs and builds the capacity to improve the implementation of these programs to improve nutritional status. It conducts training programs for postgraduates, regular summer internship programs for nutrition postgraduates, and need based training for interns on subject matter such as undernutrition and its adverse effects and the ill effects of overnutrition and obesity. Some of the key areas that the foundation is working towards are – to identify indigenous and low-cost technologies to provide nutrition support to the needy, to work on policy issues related to food, nutrition, and food safety, to advise the central and state governments on the nutrition challenges that affect the country.

Nutrition Research Initiative
The program was launched by the Nutrition Foundation of India in 1985, dedicated to conducting comprehensive studies aimed at understanding the scope and underlying factors contributing to significant nutritional challenges, particularly among children, pregnant women, and lactating mothers. Through meticulous research efforts, the foundation has been actively investigating the magnitude and determinants of these nutritional issues, striving to identify effective interventions and strategies to address them. Since its inception, the Nutrition Research Initiative has played a crucial role in advancing knowledge and advocating for improved nutritional outcomes for vulnerable populations across India.

Public Health Nutrition Training and Knowledge Enhancement Program
The initiative implemented by the Nutrition Foundation of India (NFI), encompasses various activities aimed at capacity building and knowledge dissemination in the field of public health nutrition. Through internship programs, the NFI offers training opportunities to MSc Home Science, MPH, MD Community Medicine, and MD Community Health Administration students, providing them with hands-on experience and exposure to real-world public health nutrition challenges. Additionally, the foundation organizes study circle lectures, symposia, and workshops, serving as platforms to update the knowledge and skills of nutritionists and health professionals on recent advances in nutrition science. These efforts contribute significantly to enhancing the competency and effectiveness of professionals working in the field of nutrition and public health, ultimately benefiting communities nationwide.
