Established in 2000 and registered in 2002, Turning Point Foundation is a charitable organization aimed at intervening the issues related to health, e Read moreducation and livelihood to the hard to reach and disadvantaged group of population in our society. Youth Resource Centre (YRC) supported by MDSOG, at Azadpur, North Delhi. The goal of the project is to provide knowledge and skills for young vulnerable people to earn a reasonable living so that they are not at risk of being drawn into unsafe social and unhealthy behaviours. The project also impart skill development to match their needs or immediate requirements for youths from disadvantaged sections of the society.


Issue

Young people between 12-24 years constitute approximately one-third of the population. They are a heterogeneous group and situation and needs differ by age, gender, marital status, region, religion and cultural context. Youth is relatively healthy period life, and the mortality and morbidity experienced in these ages is largely behaviour-related. Patriarchal norms and gender differential characterize the lives of young people and limit the autonomy of young females in India, and are reflect in the critical demographic indicators such as literacy, mobility employment and mortality.


Action

Computer Training, Cutting and Tailoring, Remedial Education, Beauty Culture training, Mehendi trading as well as Health and Life skills education are provided at the Youth Resource Centre situated inside the community. Financial Support for education, Tuitions, Basic English, career guidance also provided.

Impact

350 slum dwellers are trained in different levels of computers in a year 300 vulnerable women were trained income generating skills like Cutting and tailoring, Mehendi designs, Beauty culture. It helped them to work from home or nearby areas and earning a decent livelihood 150 weak school going children were supported with Remedial Eduation 200 young people were facilitated to find a job 600 people were trained in basic health, life skills and social skills

    Assisting the helpless across various domains, initiatives encompass diverse programmes, such as computer training, English speaking courses, soft skills training, cutting and tailoring training, drugs/alcohol de-addiction, vocational counselling and guidance, drugs/alcohol counselling and treatment, social and reproductive health counselling, HIV/AIDS counselling, life skills education, and public health awareness. These efforts aim to empower individuals and communities, fostering personal growth and well-being.

  • Youth Resource Centre

    Addressing the challenges faced by youth aged 12-24 in slum areas, the programme focuses on health risks, early marriage, growth and maturation, early unsafe sex, lack of contraceptive use, unintended pregnancy, sexual violence, substance abuse, limited life and livelihood opportunities, and gender discrimination. Objectives include detailed case analysis, health awareness, psychosocial counselling, career guidance, talent testing, and creating an enabling environment for behavioural change. Geographically centred in LalBagh-Azadpur, North Delhi, the programme employs strategies like health and life skills education, peer education, vocational guidance, and skill development to benefit at least 500 youth annually.
