Aaina works to provide equal opportunities for the disabled, women, and the economically disadvantaged. Its work involves delivering education to d Read moreisabled children through a special school and advocates for equal rights for the specially abled. It especially focuses on disabled women giving voice to their efforts in accessing their rights, helping them form self-help groups to achieve collective power. It conducts anti-trafficking campaigns to focus the community's attention on this malpractice and makes them aware of Government welfare schemes that can help women achieve independence of existence. It establishes children's clubs to create awareness of child rights in society and mobilise collective action to deliver children their fundamental rights.
Issue
The current structure of society is a victim of drawing distinctions and inequality with respect to the disabled, women, children, poor and excluded communities.

Programmes for women
It works on programmes to provide alternative livelihoods, ensure safe migration and organise women in collectives to link them to public welfare schemes.
Aaina, partnering with PRADAN and UN Women, initiated vocational training programmes for young women with the aim to make them financially independent.

Programmes for adolescents
Focusing on sexual and reproductive health rights and menstrual health management, the organisation runs the “Flying Wings” programme to create awareness of the role of hygiene while menstruating and trying to break the customary inhibitions related to the subject.
Through Gulechi-The wooden Champa, Aaina is encouraging creativity among disadvantaged rural girls. They are sensitised on health, hygiene, reading and writing and arts like painting, dance, music, poetry writing etc. along with local languages, customs and practices.

Programmes for persons with disabilities
Its ‘Project Ananya' is an initiative that aims to ensure district-wide enumeration and a status survey of specially-abled people. ‘Project Satyabhama’ is a community-based rehabilitation of people with disabilities with a special focus on children.
It conducts bridge classes for children with disabilities to ensure extra academic support, in partnership with PHF it launched project CBID (Community Based Inclusive Development) to strengthen children’s clubs and provide inclusive education.
It also runs “Sparsh” a centre for the deaf-blind and children with multiple sensory ailments and supports “Dhwani” a special film festival to give voice to the issues of disabled people.
