Satabdira Kalakar, an amateur theatre group, has completed 34 years in the theatre realm and eagerly anticipates continuing its mission to protect the Read more interests of theatre, its supporters, and society overall. Established modestly on April 18, 1976, in the temple city, the organisation operates primarily in the Education, Art & Culture, Child & Youth Development, and Energy & Environment sectors. Satabdira Kalakar has transcended geographical boundaries, showcasing its prowess not only within the state but also in distant cities like Guwahati, Kolkata, New Delhi (N.S.D), Mumbai, Lucknow, Allahabad, Shanti Niketan, Visakhapatnam, Ahmedabad, and Bhopal. Over the years, it has nurtured artists, playwrights, and directors, providing a platform for talent that may have otherwise remained undiscovered. The organisation has presented over one hundred fifty-nine plays and has also organised seminars, workshops on Theatre and Folk Culture, Children's Drama Festivals for Twelve years, followed by the National Multilingual Drama Festival for Eighteen years consecutively. Even after 41 years, the organisation persists in advocating for enhancements in stage activities, nurturing emerging talents, and showcasing Odisha's diverse cultural heritage.

    Satabdira Kalakar initiated an acting school in 2007 to integrate young talent into mainstream theatre. Under the guidance of esteemed theatre personalities such as Sri Bijoy Mohanty, Sri Ajit Das, and Sri Dolagobinda Rath, the first batch of students underwent training in basic acting theory, both on stage and on camera. Subsequently, multiple batches completed their courses, staging plays like "Bhoota," "Abujha Raja," and "Byaghrarohan," showcasing their acquired skills. The institution's commitment to nurturing talent is evident in its ongoing endeavours, with the 29th batch currently in progress.

  • Kalinga Natya Mahotsav

    The Kalinga Natya Mahotsav, since 1998, has been organising the National Multilingual Drama Festival with support from the Ministry of Culture, New Delhi, NSNA, New Delhi, and the Department of Culture, Government of Odisha. This festival aims to foster Oriya theatre and showcase renowned plays from across the country. In addition to staging Odia playwrights' works, the festival includes plays in Hindi and Bengali, attracting diverse audiences nationwide. Eminent groups and directors present their acclaimed productions, enriching the cultural landscape.
