Arasan Rural Development Society (ARDS)

This facility offers compassionate care, attending to the emotions and sorrows of those in distress. It provides comfort during periods of depression and ensures a secure environment, offering shelter, food, healthcare, delivery and postnatal services, counseling, legal assistance, and rehabilitative support. The primary goal is to empower these women and girls, fostering their independence in socio-economic aspects. Additionally, it extends care to the children of these individuals, providing free education, nutrition, recreation, and more. Efforts are made to reconnect with the families, exploring opportunities for reconciliation and restarting family life. The rehabilitative training programs, including basket making, toy making, sewing, and typing, have equipped our residents with upgraded skills, enabling them to achieve economic independence.

The elderly care facility offers complimentary accommodation to destitute and impoverished men and women, with the primary goal of providing peace during their final days. In addition to fundamental amenities like food and individual beds, the organization maintains a dedicated medical staff to attend to the healthcare needs of the elderly.
This home serves as a refuge for senior citizens who are destitute and without a home, having been abandoned by their families. At present, the facility accommodates 25 residents, with the minimum age for senior citizens residing in the center being 60 years. The residents receive free lodging, medical attention, and meals. While most of them are beyond the age for regular employment, the facility strives to ensure their well-being and comfort during their later years.

Family Counselling Services are crucial for upholding the rights of women and preserving family bonds. ARDS operates a Family Counselling Centre in Kalakad, facilitated by two counsellors (one male and one female). These counsellors attentively address the concerns of couples, fostering awareness among men about the significance of gender equality and women's rights. They guide couples to resolve their issues amicably through mutual tolerance. If reconciliation becomes challenging, legal assistance is offered to women, assisting them in approaching the police or the court. In situations involving physical or mental violence against women in their homes, guidance is provided for residing in Short Stay/Swadhar Homes.

The scheme aims to empower and boost the confidence of Minority women, as well as their neighbours from different communities residing in the same village/locality. This empowerment is achieved by imparting knowledge, providing tools, and teaching techniques for effective interaction with government systems, banks, and various institutions at all levels.
The broader objective is to empower minority women from diverse communities, encouraging them to break free from the confines of their homes and communities. The initiative seeks to inspire them to take on leadership roles and assert their rights, both individually and collectively. This involves accessing services, facilities, skills, and opportunities while claiming their rightful share of government development benefits. Ultimately, the goal is to enhance their lives and living conditions.
