Founded in 1900, it is now a 3,000-bed multi-speciality teaching hospital operating on five campuses and serving people from India and the sub-continent. Daily outpatient appointments exceed 8,000. Every day around 50 babies are born, 158 operations and more than 30,000 laboratory tests are performed. CMC aims to promote health and wholeness in individuals and communities with a special concern for the disabled, marginalized and vulnerable. Economically disadvantaged patients are given concessionary or free treatment. Outreach programmes cover urban and rural communities and target bpl families. These provide very low cost/free treatment, and access to the tertiary level hospital. Educational fees are nominal. CMC is a national leader in medical research, especially pioneering in neglected areas of medical need.
