Hand-in-Hand India is an international NGO founded in 2002 to provide evening schools for children working as bonded labourers in the weaving industry Read more in Kancheepuram, Tamil Nadu. Over time, its focus expanded to include community health, skill development, and job creation, with a vision to lessen poverty by providing access to education, affordable healthcare, entrepreneurship, financial inclusion, and a clean environment. Its mission is to work with poor women, children, and communities to provide them with dignity, hope, and choice for sustainable development. It aims to create 10 million jobs by 2025 and has already created 6.3 million.

Programs

  • Child Labour Elimination Programme

    Its child labour elimination efforts began with conducting evening classes for children of silk weavers and later expanded to residential schools and facilitating secondary education. Its efforts further include organising the society, special residential and non-residential training centres, capacity building of schools, operating child lines and supporting the cause of higher education.

  • Job Creation & Women Empowerment Programme

    It brings together women to form them into self-help groups endowing them with a united voice, arranging for them to access finance and undergo skilling, empowering them to start businesses of their own. This effort leads to gender equality and facilitates increased acceptance of women in society and enterprises.

  • Skill Development Programme

    Through this programme, it seeks to reduce the gap between talent and job requirements in youth, women and farmers. In partnership with the National Skill Development Corporation, it provides training on 16 relevant occupations also additionally provides coaching in soft skills making the beneficiaries ready for the job market.

  • Healthcare Programme

    Its healthcare programme supplements existing Government health facilities. It has set-up cost-effective clinics and pharmacies and regularly conducts camps making the people aware of sanitation and hygiene, maternal and child health and improves infrastructure where applicable. It effectively helps the Government schemes to reach the benefactors so that it is taken advantage of by the needy.

  • Natural Resources Management Programme

    Its Natural Resources Management Programme focuses on the conservation and management of water, green farming, and climate change. It works closely with farmers to create more employment options and enable the use of natural resources responsibly.
