3G Gender Equality & Governance in Gwalpara for Women
StateIn collaboration with the Netherlands Embassy, Help a Child of India implemented the '3G for Women' project, focused on gender equality and governance in Gwalpara Block, Madhepura district of Bihar.
The 3G for Women project was conceptualized as a follow-up to the Functional Literacy Program. Its overarching objective is to champion equal rights for women within Gwalpara Block. To attain this objective, the project seeks to address the obstacles outlined in the previous section and aims to accomplish the following outcomes:
In January 2022, twenty villages within Gwalpara Block were meticulously chosen. In each village, a trained Facilitator for life skill training was designated. Notably, the project prioritized the participation of 20 women from each village, hailing from the most vulnerable and marginalized families, resulting in a total of 400 direct participants. -
Gajapati Child Development Project
StateAbout 764 children were successfully mentored through consistent sessions, ensuring a 100% retention rate for girls and preventing any school dropouts. Out of the 307 high school students, three girls distinguished themselves by achieving impressive marks, marking a first in their village for passing the 10th standard. The Child Leadership Teams, supported by elders, actively advocated for child rights, particularly against child marriage, child labor, and child abuse. Their efforts resulted in two children being rescued from child labor in Nuasahi Village, while the pledge to marry only after reaching the legal age led to the prevention of seven child marriages.
However, the reporting period also presented three challenges. Firstly, 75% of children faced obstacles in pursuing higher education due to the lack of nearby colleges and financial support. Secondly, water scarcity emerged as a significant issue in target villages, affecting agricultural productivity and lowering income. -
Digital center of learning
StateThe organisation initiated digital classrooms for school-going children in Paikrai. These classrooms catered to those who lacked access to online lessons and struggled with understanding their subjects. Given the challenges of internet connectivity in the area, online classes were not feasible. Instead, smart TVs were provided to the village, loaded with syllabus materials via a pen drive. Classes were conducted with the guidance of Child Opportunity Centre facilitators.
E-learning classes have injected newfound enthusiasm and engagement among the children and their parents. Through this initiative, education has found its way back into the lives of these young learners. -
Nabarangpur Child Development Project
StateAbout 43 pregnant and lactating mothers underwent training as part of the Healthy Baby Competition initiative, equipping them with valuable knowledge and skills to provide enhanced care and nutrition for their children's well-being.
Online education has been successfully provisioned to 560 students studying in class II to class X across the 12 designated villages. This achievement was facilitated through the implementation of the e-learning education program, wherein SMART TVs were strategically installed in the Child Opportunity Centres. Access to teaching videos from e-suvidya and live online classes through the OSEPA YouTube channel ensured a continuous learning experience for these students.
The Child Development Committees and Child Leadership Teams closely monitored the COVID-19 pandemic situation in 12 target villages. Due to their efforts, no Covid-19 related deaths were reported in these designated villages.
