Real time situation that occurred in my brother's life' Jayaraj" who was intellectually disabled and passed away in my arms when he was just 19 this k Read moreept me thinking and impacted me deep within and so I pitched in to start Jayam Trust in his memory. Our Jayam Special School is founded on the basis of Special Education, Therapeutic Rehabilitation Services, Vocational Training and Special Olympic Program for the children with Autism and Intellectual disability. We provide the highest level of Learning & Training and getting onto Employment. We pride ourselves on using evidence-based practices and techniques under Safe Learning Environment with qualified Special Educators, Vocational Instructors and Therapists to enhance the health and wellness of the children to bring them back into mainstream society.


Issue

There are a number of problems that intellectually disabled children and their families face – At Jayam we understand their challenges in a detailed and specific way. The major social issue of minimal inclusion and employment opportunity for autism and intellectual disabilities in India is a complex situation at the moment, disproportionately high numbers of autistic adults are unemployed. By addressing the multifaceted hurdles of education, skills training and employment for special children, working together we can build a more inclusive and equitable society. To promote self-advocacy and provide them with special education and therapeutic rehabilitation in the process and the appropriate skills training.


Action

Our Goal is to provide the highest level of learning and training. We want to achieve a safe and nurturing environment , alongside with teaching methods designed specifically to promote effective learning skills. We make sure that every students has the opportunity to develop his/her abilities, share new experiences and is supported in realizing their future potential and fulfil their dreams. Every child who enters the school is assessed across 400 motor and functional parameters over a two-week period, enabling us to evaluate individual children's specific needs. This helps us prepare a customized education program depending on the extent and nature of their intellectual disability. Parents are our key partners in this process.

Our 13 years’ journey has been very difficult but we are proud of the difference we have made in the lives of God’s special children Cumulatively we have impacted lives of 1650 unique children. A remarkable fact is that our results in the state board exams have consistently been 100%. We successfully transition 15% of our children to mainstream schools every year. Our holistic programs have helped many children reduce their dependence on medication. • Over 56 students have completed SSLC State Board Exams with colourful marks. We have so far given 100% results every year. • 38 students have completed ITI course in various branches. • Out of them 12 have job placement - TVS Lucas and CVRDE, Avadi, and earning a good salary

    Jayam Special School provides a Special Olympic sports training program for children with Autism and Intellectual Disabilities, aiming to promote physical fitness, teamwork, and self-confidence. The program offers a variety of sports and recreational activities tailored to the abilities of each child, encouraging them to engage in healthy competition and develop social skills. Participation in the Special Olympics helps build physical endurance, discipline, and a sense of achievement, while also fostering inclusion and community involvement for children with special needs.
