Since
1990
Society for Rural Development Promotion Services (SRDPS), initially founded by Mr. Raja PanneerSelvan in 1990 as an NGO, has been serving the communit Read morey for over three decades. It operates under the dedicated leadership of Mr. Raja PanneerSelvan, with registration renewed annually. Despite facing financial challenges, SRDPS stands as a testament to his unwavering commitment. Sadly, Mr. Raja PanneerSelvan passed away in 2014, leaving a void in the institution. Under the capable leadership of Mrs. Thamizharasi Raja PanneerSelvan, SRDPS has expanded its outreach, focusing on vulnerable populations such as children and women facing difficult circumstances, victims of trafficking, abandoned newborns, and distressed orphaned children. The vision of SRDPS is to protect and support these women and children during times of social distress and promote gender equality. Its mission involves implementing programmes like UJJAWALA and SWADHAR to rescue and care for abandoned infants, facilitating legal adoption to provide them with a better life, and offering counselling, rehabilitation, empowerment, and reintegration services. SRDPS aims to ensure the well-being and development of those in need within society, particularly women and children facing challenging circumstances. It is committed to making a positive impact and fostering equal opportunities for women in society.

Swadhar Home Programme
The organisation operates Swadhar Home, which has been providing shelter and support to women and girls in distress for over seventeen years. During the reporting year, it admitted 19 women and 5 children, successfully rehabilitating 16 women and 9 children back into their families. The Home offers essential services such as nutritious meals, medical care, counselling, vocational training, and job placement. It caters to women without social and economic support, helping them regain emotional strength, providing legal aid, and supporting their reintegration into society. The facility includes comfortable accommodations, a mini-library, recreational amenities, and healthcare services. Inmates receive psycho-social counselling and vocational training, empowering them for independent and self-reliant lives, including computer operating and tailoring skills.
-
Adoption Facilitation Programme
Since 2007, SRDPS has operated a Specialized Adoption Agency (SAA) addressing the issue of abandoned or surrendered newborns. Recognized by the Government of Tamil Nadu, it follows CARA regulations, offering comprehensive care, including nutrition and medical attention. After home studies, parents are placed on a state seniority list for online child referrals. In 2021-2022, SRDPS cared for 11 children, including those with health challenges. The SAA boasts a well-equipped facility with cradles, medical equipment, and play areas. CARA's online registration streamlines adoption procedures for parents, enhancing efficiency.
-
Cradle Baby Centre Programme
SRDPS operates a Cradle Baby Centre, which features a secure cradle located outside the main gate, equipped with instructions in the local language and English on how to safely surrender a baby. Once the baby is placed in the cradle, it self-locks, preventing removal from the outside. A simple bell press signals immediate care and support for the baby, allowing for retrieval from inside without disturbance. This initiative aims to provide a safe and discreet option for mothers to ensure the well-being of their infants.
-
Ujjawala Programme
SRDPS administers the Ujjawala project, initiated in 2009 to rehabilitate women victims of abduction, addressing the pervasive issue of human trafficking. With over 5,00,000 reported cases of trafficking globally, and over 30,000 in India annually, the project focuses on prevention, rescue, rehabilitation, and reintegration. Measures include forming Community Vigilance Groups, conducting awareness programmes, and distributing educational materials to high-risk groups and officials. The project rescues victims, provides immediate relief, and offers rehabilitation in a well-equipped facility. Services include legal aid, medical check-ups, counselling, education, vocational training, and recreational activities. The reintegration process involves a Half-Way Home, seed money for self-employment, transport and escort services, and follow-ups. To raise awareness and prevent trafficking, sensitization workshops are conducted, involving various stakeholders and experts in the field.

Rehabilitation Programme for the Mentally Challenged
SRDPS operates a residential home for mentally ill females, established in accordance with the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 and Tamil Nadu Registration of Psychiatric Rehabilitation Centres of Mentally Ill Persons Rules, 2002. This facility, inaugurated with the support of local authorities, offers a range of services including medical treatment, psychiatric care, therapy, counselling, and recreational activities. Patients also receive Differently Abled Identity Cards. The home has successfully admitted and treated mentally ill individuals, and as of March 31, 2021, it cares for 26 patients, with a total of 53 admitted since January 2019. Upon recovery, patients are reunited with their families or guardians, contributing to their well-being and reintegration into society.
