    A development project, in the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra, aimed at promoting sustainable livelihood and agriculture. It is implementing various watershed structures, lift irrigation systems, and modern agricultural techniques such as System of Rice Intensification (SRI), Line Sowing, Mix Crop, Broad Bed Furrow, and Farming and Kitchen Gardens. These initiatives aim to reduce input costs and increase agricultural production. The organisation also supports livelihood opportunities related to the collection of Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFP) to promote conservation and sustainability. These efforts focus on enhancing agricultural productivity, income generation, adopting advanced technologies, and improving cropping patterns and practices. The organisation aims to form organic farmer's groups to further increase income through activities such as Ecological and Circle Kitchen Gardens and Learning Demo Plots.

    • The journey began with organizing Mahila Mandals under Employment Guarantee Schemes and later expanded to Women SHGs involved in Tusser Silk Production.
    • Between 1990 and 2006, 1,500 SHGs were formed. The Krantijyoti Mahila Sanghatna in Gadchiroli and Chandrapur strengthened women’s leadership in Forest Management, Panchayati Raj, and campaigns against violence.
    • From 2017 onward, women’s leadership grew through Mahagramsabhas and decision-making roles in farmer groups, SHGs, and livelihood initiatives, benefiting over 3000 women across 200 villages.
    • In the next five years, the focus is on enhancing NETRI leadership, strengthening ownership and control over IFR and CFR resources, and promoting women-led collective enterprises and skill development for sustainable empowerment among 2000 women in 200 villages of 3 states.

    The organisation collaborates with SATHI, Pune, under the National Health Mission (NHM) Maharashtra, to work on Community-Based Monitoring and Planning as well as Nutritional Health Services. It focuses on improving healthcare availability and access, especially in rural areas, for the poor, women, and children. It engages the community and its representatives in providing feedback on public health services through community-based monitoring. It also leads process monitoring in UMED-Maharashtra State Rural Livelihood Mission, which aims to eradicate rural poverty and support self-help groups (SHGs) and higher-level federations.     • The initiative started with Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR) through village-level surveys to identify issues and challenges faced by PwDs, followed by SHG formation and cluster-level federations (2007).
    • By 2011, Block and District Federations of PwDs were established across Gadchiroli, Chandrapur, and Bhandara districts, ensuring collective representation and advocacy. In 2015, the Training Centre for Employability and Skill Enhancement at Nagpur trained 1,600 youth and facilitated 1050 job placements in BPO, IT, Hospitality, Manufacturing, Retail etc. sectors, leaving them earning Rs. 15000 average income per month.
    • From 2017 onward, the organization supported 630 PwDs to start social enterprises earning Rs. 5000 per month and, in 2021, established the Sangatee Farmer Producer Company with 800 shareholders and turnover of 80L and a Vidarbha-level federation of 4,000 PwDs, along with government sensitization initiatives.
    • In the next five years, Amhi Amchya Arogyasathi plans to promote inclusive livelihoods, digital skill development, and policy advocacy to strengthen socio-economic participation and leadership of PwDs across 3 States, 15 districts and 500 villages with 15000 beneficiaries.

  • Health, Nutrition and Sanitation Programme

    It aims to address challenges such as childhood stunting, maternal and childhood anaemia, and malnutrition in tribal, rural, and urban poor areas. It works with the Government to improve health initiatives and fill gaps in the healthcare system. Initiatives include community-based management of acute malnutrition in selected districts of Maharashtra and strengthening public health services. In terms of sanitation, it focuses on cleanliness, reducing drudgery, addressing water contamination, and promoting good sanitation practices. Its activities involve well construction, repairs of drinking water schemes, and installation of hand pumps and taps. It supports the Swachh Bharat Mission and collaborates with experts to develop affordable and community-friendly toilet models. Its efforts contribute to sanitation, employment, and achieving open defecation-free status in villages. It has also taken up the School Water and Sanitation Project to address needs in Anganwadi and primary schools.

    Amhi Amchya Arogyasathi began livelihood interventions in 1985 to ensure food security, enhance income generation, and promote sustainable use of natural resources.
    • The early initiatives focused on Employment Guarantee Schemes and poverty reduction through Rankari Sanghatna (Tusser Silk Producers’ Organization), integrating traditional livelihoods with conservation.
    • During the 1990s, 1,500 Women SHGs were formed, with 100 groups supported for entrepreneurship and linked to block and district federations. Later, programs such as Ecological Farming, Kitchen Gardens, and Farmer Groups ensured food security for over 1200 families across 21 villages.
    • By 2017–2025, efforts expanded through Mahagramsabha formation, Goatry, Poultry, and Fishery enterprises (10,000 families, 110 villages), and Van Dhan Vikas Kendras promoting collective NTFP marketing. Gram Sabhas were also strengthened as implementing agencies under NREGS. The livelihood program generates 15 to 20 Cr additional income for the families each year. Over time, it has generated convergence of Rs. 450 Cr.
    • In the next five years, Amhi Amchya Arogyasathi plans to promote climate-resilient agroecological farming, women-led forest-based enterprises, and sustainable livelihoods for 5000 additional families across 500 villages in 3 States.

    Amhi Amchya Arogyasathi began its journey in child rights and education in 2001 with a focus on creating safe, nurturing, and empowering learning environments for children.
    • The initiative started with the Jivan Shala Program, promoting village-level Balsakha and cultural education, later expanded through Aflatoun and Aflateen Programs (2011) focusing on financial literacy, personality development, and life skills.
    • Between 2016 and 2021, the organization introduced English-eTech for digital learning, Childline 1098 Gadchiroli for child rights and psychosocial support, and Gotul Jivan Shala for after-school and art-based education, reaching 15000 children across 250 schools/villages.
    • In 2024, the Family Strengthening and Family-Based Alternative Care Program was launched, focusing on prevention, gatekeeping, and transition to ensure that every child grows up in a safe and caring family environment in 30 villages. Impact

Since its inception in 1984, Amhi Amchya Arogyasathi has created a transformative impact across five major thematic areas — Health and Nutrition, Livelihood Development, Women Empowerment, Child Protection and Education, and Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities. The organization has reached approximately 145,000 beneficiaries across Gadchiroli, Chandrapur, and Nagpur districts of Maharashtra, covering more than 2,200 villages. Through its multi-thematic community-driven approach, the organization has: • Improved maternal and child health outcomes by reducing malnutrition by 15.3 percent, 80 percent reduction in anemia. • Enabled sustainable livelihood opportunities for over 11,000 households in 131 villages, generating 500 Cr income through agroecological farming, goatery, poultry, fishery, and NTFP-based enterprises and convergence of 450 Cr. • Empowered 4500 rural and tribal women through leadership training, collective enterprises, and participation in governance and natural resource management. • Promoted child rights and education by strengthening family-based care, after-school learning, and life-skill programs among 35000 children in 350 schools. • Advanced inclusion and economic empowerment of persons with disabilities through community-based rehabilitation, skill development, and formation of federations and producer companies benefiting 8000 persons with disabilities in 4 states.
