Barnamala Educational And Cultural Society, an NGO in Kharagpur Sub-Division, West Bengal, was established in March 2005 and officially registered in Read moreAugust 2005 under the West Bengal Society Regd. Act (1961). It operates across various regions, including Paschim Medinipur District and economically disadvantaged areas in West Bengal. The organisation's primary objective is to uplift underprivileged individuals, enhancing their quality of life, and empowering them to participate actively in the nation's rapid development. Its mission encompasses promoting people's involvement in the development process, raising awareness through information, education, and communication, mobilizing communities for development, focusing on women's issues, tailoring programmes based on community needs, and aiding individuals struggling with drug addiction. Its vision is to devise practical strategies for the betterment of humanity, foster self-reliance among the impoverished, promote grassroots movements for liberation, facilitate communication between the Government and the public, invest in human resource development, and work towards socio-economic development, small-scale industries, health, education, and cultural preservation, and the formation of self-help groups to drive social change.

Programs

  • Awareness & Health Benefits and Scope of Ayurveda & Yoga” in Paschim Medinipur District

    Beneficiaries are selected through various methods like, identification of the target families during field visits, enquiring with the local community and direct requests from potential beneficiaries.
    Society will distribute handbills giving information about the event in the targeted villages.
    Post successful completion of the camps, booklets will be distributed based upon healthy Living.

  • Women Empowerment Programme

    Barnamala Educational and Cultural Society places a significant emphasis on women's empowerment and the development of adolescents. Recognizing the challenges faced by women in its target area, many of whom have limited education, it aims to empower them by encouraging self-employment. To achieve this, the organisation has facilitated the formation of self-help groups and offered vocational skill development training, with the goal of enabling 60% of these women to establish their own businesses, generate income, and become self-reliant.

  • Early Childhood Education Centre

    The organisation runs an Early Childhood Education Centre in Madanmohan village, Changual Gram Panchyat, Kharagpur-II Block. It caters to children aged 3-6 years, providing essential developmental skills through non-formal preprimary education methods. Through activities like dramatics, role play, rhymes, songs, dances, and choreography, it enhances their articulation and communication skills. The centre, with the support of Barnamala Educational and Cultural Society members and volunteers, ensures daily transportation for around 25 attending children from their families.

  • Animal Welfare Programme

    Barnamala Educational & Cultural Society is dedicated to the welfare of companion and domestic animals. It manages a Goshala in Kantageria Village, Changual Gram Panchyat, Kharagpur-II Block, Paschim Medinipur District, along with a small health clinic for animals. During the reporting period, it cared for 460 animals, including dogs, cows, disabled old bulls, goats, and cats. The organisation conducted 8 health camps in various Kharagpur-II Block villages, where villagers actively participated by bringing 150 domestic and companion animals. These animals received immunization and compassionate care, marking a valuable service to the animal community.

  • Promotion of sustainable environment through tree plantation and advocacy

    One of the most glaring problems which the world faces today is the environmental pollution. Man has exploited nature excessively at the cost of the development.There is an immediate need to make people aware about environmental degradation. Education and public participation has potential to change and improve the quality of environment. The proposed project concerns a broad environment awareness campaign coupled with tree plantation and advocacy activities to mitigate the rising environmental crisis in Paschim Medinipur District, West Bengal.
