The Kolkata Institute for Advanced Studies and Community Research (KIASCR) is committed to improving rural living standards in West Bengal for disadva Read morentaged communities through sustainable livelihood strategies. It employs innovative methods like the Livelihood Assistance Programme and the Community Development Programme, collaborating with educational institutions, researchers, NGOs, and PRIs to conduct high-quality research and implement social development initiatives. Operating as a philanthropic social enterprise under the Societies Registration Act, KIASCR conducts policy and applied research. It actively involves marginalized communities, leveraging local knowledge to conserve the environment and safeguard the rights of vulnerable groups. Through collaborative efforts with stakeholders, KIASCR strives to disrupt the cycle of social marginalization. The organisation's work encompasses various sectors including policy research on women, children, and marginalized ethnic communities, biodiversity conservation, sustainable agriculture, community healthcare, gender and civil rights advocacy, education, food security, livelihood support, human-wildlife conflict resolution, and wildlife preservation. KIASCR particularly focuses on regions like the Sundarbans and Alipurduar, employing participatory methods, promoting small-scale businesses, integrating responsible tourism, and organizing awareness programs and workshops.

Overall Programmes
The organisation engages in a wide array of activities, including policy research on women, children, and marginalized ethnic groups, community-based biodiversity conservation, sustainable rural agriculture, community health, gender and civil rights protection, education, food security, and human-animal conflict resolution. Its project areas are in the Sundarbans and Buxa Tiger Reserve regions, focusing on the Rabha Tribe, Tea Tribes, SHGs, and marginalized SC/ST/OBC communities. Using participatory approaches, it promotes micro-enterprises, connects responsible tourism with cultural traditions, and utilizes IEC methods for social awareness. The organisation conducts seminars, workshops, and campaigns, collaborates with educational institutions and NGOs for policy research, and mobilizes SHGs and volunteer groups to enhance leadership capabilities.
