The centre operates clinics and outreach camps throughout the year, providing free eye care to approximately 70,000 outpatients and performing about 11,000 free surgeries annually. It conducts large-scale eye health screenings in schools, serving around 150,000 children each year, and runs specialised programmes for diabetic retinopathy and retinopathy of prematurity. The organisation employs a dedicated team of 310 staff and maintains 18 vision centres, many of which are financially self-sustaining, ensuring comprehensive eye care services for the underprivileged.

It has also collaborated on genetic studies of albinism and projects aimed at preventing childhood blindness. Current research includes the SMART India Study, which models and assesses risks associated with type 2 diabetes complications.
