Society For Peoples Action And Rural Development In Himalayan Area(SPARDHA), established in 1994, focuses on rural development activities in the Himal Read moreayan area. It promotes beekeeping, specifically Indica Cerena, to provide additional income to rural communities, especially women, while also addressing environmental degradation. The organisation's secretary, Shri Deep Chandra Bisht, has dedicated himself to this cause, investing his own money earned from his service in the Indian Navy to procure funding for SPARDHA's operations. Currently based in Almora, Uttarakhand, SPARDHA operates from Ishwari Bhawan, with its secretary providing office space in his own house. To meet the growing demand for honey, SPARDHA installed a processing unit in the nearby Industrial Estate in 1997. SPARDHA's vision is to transform the socio-economic landscape of the Himalayan region while safeguarding its environment. By empowering rural communities through initiatives like beekeeping, it aims to create sustainable livelihoods and combat environmental degradation in the Himalayas.

Women Empowerment Programme
SPARDHA focuses on women's empowerment, a vital aspect of societal development, especially in rural areas. It emphasizes gender empowerment, encompassing all genders within a particular social or political context. One approach is through land rights, enabling women to gain economic independence and challenge gender inequalities. Additionally, allocating traditionally male responsibilities to women enhances their status in society, fostering self-respect and confidence. SPARDHA recognizes the transformative impact of including women in community activities, leading to widespread positive outcomes.

Education Programmes
SPARDHA promotes education through activities like debates and essay writing in educational institutions to raise awareness about self-employment opportunities. Education encompasses various methods like storytelling, discussion, and directed research, guided by educators or self-driven learning. It occurs in formal and informal settings, shaping individuals' thoughts, feelings, and actions. Educational stages include preschool, primary, secondary, and higher education or vocational training. Recognizing the universal right to education, SPARDHA contributes to making education compulsory up to a certain age, as acknowledged in global agreements like the UN's International Covenant on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights.
