Theory of Change

Charutar Arogya Mandal was set up in the year 1972 by the late Dr. HM Patel, India’s former Finance and Home Minister, to create an example of how the health-care needs of the rural community can be met. What has emerged over the years, is an institution that has created facilities and health-care infrastructure for a rural community that match with the best of those available to their urban counterparts and a network of educational institutions that graduate hundreds of health-care professionals. From its humble origin as a 136-bed health care facility, Shree Krishna Hospital, managed by the Charutar Arogya Mandal has grown to a 1000-bed NABH accredited institute today, which, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities renders professional services. It has been able to serve the community with a vision of, "Solace for the Suffering", envisioned by its founder Chairman, Dr HM Patel. Today, the hospital is considered one of the most well equipped rural health-care centres in Gujarat, with facilities such as Cardiac Centre, state-of-the-art Cancer Centre with 2 Linear Accelerators for radiotherapy, Bone Marrow Transplant, Trauma Centre, 170 ICU beds (which include the 120-bed Critical Care Centre, equipped with a CRRT machine), modern NICU facility, 34-bed Dialysis Centre, 21 Operation Theatres, NABL accredited labs, including a Molecular Lab, NABH accredited Blood Bank, Diagnostics facility including a 3 Tesla MRI machine & CT-Scan, and a 24x7 Pharmacy, all located in a lush green 100 acre campus. Last year 5,05,000 patients who come to the hospital annually for outdoor consultations, over 56,600 in-patients admitted to its various indoor services, and over 11,000 surgeries were performed of which over 4500 were supra-major/major surgeries. The institute was the only designated COVID hospital in the district, treated approx 10,000 infected patients. We also believe in remaining upgraded for our medical infrastructure so that our patients gets the best care they deserve. In sync with this a new 3-D Cath Lab with a technology that promises better and sustainable treatment outcomes was launched with a financial spent of over Five crores. We are also in the process of installing an additional new Linear Accelerator machine to administer Radiation Therapy for the cancer patients. And, in very near future, the PET-SCAN facility would start functioning, much to the relief of cancer patients who had to go to either Vadodara or Ahmedabad for this essential service.
