Since
1977
Established in 1977 as an institution under the Nehru Foundation for Development (NFD), the Vikram Sarabhai Centre for Development Interaction (VIKSAT Read more) has been dedicated to environmental conservation and sustainable development. Its primary mission is to foster collaboration among individuals and organizations to protect the environment and to establish People's Institutions (PIs) for the sustainable management of natural resources. Over the past four decades, VIKSAT has evolved from a platform for intellectual discourse to an active advocate for community rights over forests and their resources. The organization has implemented various innovative initiatives, including water harvesting, joint forest management, biodiversity conservation, sustainable agriculture, and climate-proofing interventions. These efforts aim to build climate resilience within communities and have involved the installation of solar pumps, drip irrigation systems, mulching practices in crop cultivation, soil and water conservation, and the establishment of forward and backward linkages through Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs).
