Association For Blindness And Leprosy Eradication (ABLE)

ABLE Charities provides non-formal education in slums and underserved areas, addressing the educational challenges faced by children due to their parents' transient work. It establishes community schools with flexible timings, offering basic literacy programmes and educational materials. The organisation also offers free medical checkups, medical support, and vaccinations, along with mid-day meals for children. It facilitates the transition of long-term attendees to regular Government schools, providing homework support and encouraging parental involvement. Currently, it operates multiple centres, serving nearly 700 children, aiming to uphold every child's right to education, making a significant impact on vulnerable children's lives in India.

ABLE Charities' extension, ABLE Youth, emerged in mid-2010 and boasts 80 registered members from esteemed educational institutions. This youth-driven initiative concentrates on imparting fundamental education to underprivileged individuals. They regularly visit slum schools and orchestrate events to infuse vibrancy into the lives of young learners. Pranjul Kathuria leads the organisation, supported by an annually elected council.

ABLE Charities, in response to the dire circumstances surrounding orphaned and vulnerable girls in India, established the ABLE HOME OF HOPE in Palwal. This orphanage addresses the concerning issue of 20 million orphans in the country, many of whom have been abandoned by their parents. A staggering 41% of India's population is under 18 years old, and 13% of these children reside in single-parent households, often facing social and economic challenges. Furthermore, the skewed gender ratio and the rise in rape cases in Haryana have highlighted the urgent need for a safe haven for girls. ABLE Charities' Home of Hope, founded in June 2017, initially sheltered 5 orphaned girls and has since expanded its care to encompass 30 such girls. The organisation's vision is to provide these girls with a cherished and protected childhood.

The ABLE Charitable Hospital in Palwal, having 100 beds, has played a pivotal role in providing medical care to an impressive count of over 4,00,000 patients to date. Annually, the hospital conducts around 1,000 major general operations and approximately 1,500 free cataract surgeries. Its primary mission is to offer healthcare services to the underprivileged sections of society, with a focus on providing top-notch medical care at reasonable rates. ABLE Hospital excels in various specialized healthcare areas, including gynaecology, general medicine, dental care, ophthalmology, general surgery, dermatology, and eye care, aiming to uplift the health and well-being of the less fortunate.

ABLE Charitable Hospital in Palwal launched the Free Eye Cataract Surgeries Program in response to the significant issue of cataract-induced blindness in India, affecting millions who cannot afford treatment. Since its inception in September 2014, the hospital's fully equipped Eye care unit has performed approximately 6,000 Free Cataract Surgeries. These surgeries, conducted by qualified medical professionals within the hospital, not in makeshift camps, have had a profound impact on the lives of over 6,000 elderly individuals. By restoring their sight, this programme has not only improved their quality of life but also empowered them to return to work and live with dignity. It serves several districts in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, including some of the economically disadvantaged regions in India as recognized by the Government.
