It was set up under the bilateral agreement between the Royal Governments of Netherlands and Denmark and the Department of Economic Affairs, Governmen Read moret of India. It initially worked for Kerala Water Authority (KWA) and took up community participation, capacity building, community monitoring in the water & environmental sanitation sector. It also works on rural water supply, sanitation, women development, capacity building, managed water supply schemes, research, etc. It has set up several working models of various methods for processing of biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste like vermi compost, bucket compost, kitchen bin, bio-bin, ring compost, biogas plant, pipe compost, biocomposter bin, biodigester pot, Thumboormuzhi aerobic compost unit, bottle booth, pot compost, etc at the 'Bio Park', developed at Model Higher Secondary School in Kozhikode and was inaugurated in November 2020, thats aims to create awareness among students on waste management. Saji Sebastian, Executive Director, Socio Economic Unit Foundation of Kerala participated and shared his experience of waste management at a virtual orientation programme on Solid Liquid Waste Management (SLWM) organized in December 2020 by Assam Branch Indian Tea Association (ABITA), with the support of UNICEF, Assam. It also claims to be accredited by the Government of Kerala in the field of water and environmental sanitation.
