  • Child Rights Programme

    District

The Centre for Action Research and Peoples Development (CARPED) is deeply committed to promoting child rights, with a primary focus on universalizing elementary education. CARPED achieves this through the operation of day and evening centres, encouraging parents and marginalized children, especially girls, to enrol in Government schools and hostels. Over the years, CARPED's efforts have successfully enrolled around 3000 children from Kowdipally Mandal into Government schools since 1998. Additionally, CARPED actively combats child labour and addresses child marriages. Furthermore, CARPED's diverse programs aim to improve nutrition and healthcare for mothers and children, including immunization initiatives, birth registration drives, and regular pre- and postnatal examinations in Kowdipally Mandal. Simultaneously, CARPED collaborates with the Government to enhance sanitation facilities and access to clean drinking water in villages.

  • Women Empowerment Programme

CARPED works for women's empowerment and their overall well-being. Its efforts in this domain encompass a range of initiatives. CARPED initiated a groundbreaking campaign against forced hysterectomies, shedding light on the issue's magnitude and providing a replicable model for NGOs across states. Expanding its influence, CARPED tackled health and social challenges head-on. Educational material on HIV/AIDS was developed in a tribal language, resulting in India's first educational film on this subject in a tribal language. Alongside these achievements, CARPED is dedicated to combating child marriages within the Gangireddula community, eradicating this age-old practice even among nomadic tribes. CARPED's commitment to women's empowerment is comprehensive, as it continuously innovates, intervenes, and advocates for positive change in all aspects of women's lives.

  • Healthcare Programme

CARPED is unwavering in its commitment to the health and well-being of children, women, and tribal communities. It initiated a groundbreaking campaign against coerced hysterectomies, serving as a national model for NGOs and raising awareness about this issue. CARPED's health outreach includes impactful HIV/AIDS educational materials in a tribal language, culminating in India's first educational film on the subject in a tribal language. It actively works to stop child marriages among the Gangireddula community and nomadic tribes. Focusing on Mother and Child Health within tribal contexts, CARPED conducts sanitation awareness programs like WASH in schools, driving meaningful change in these vulnerable populations.

  • NRM Environment Protection and Education Programme

CARPED actively engages communities in joint forest management (JFM) in Kowdipally Mandal, promoting awareness and providing training to self-help groups. It focuses on natural resource management in collaboration with communities to improve the livelihoods of the poor, including activities like tank restoration and farmer training. Village forest protection committees set a model for participatory forest management. CARPED also plays a crucial role in environmental education, supplying educational materials to Government schools and establishing resource centres in Kukatpally and Kowdipally Mandal. Their pioneering work in developing Telugu environmental education materials and training educators is highly regarded.

  • Research Programme

CARPED is dedicated to action research conducted by its staff and international interns across various locations, helping identify gaps, understand realities, and develop strategies for effective Government programme implementation. It excels in designing and executing pilot projects to showcase alternative models. These initiatives include providing education to first-generation Lambada children, leading to the conversion of 25 non-formal education centres into Government schools. CARPED is known for its pioneering role in exposing coerced hysterectomies' extent and creating India's first educational film on HIV/AIDS in a tribal language.
