Malenadu Education and Rural Development Society(MEARDS), a registered not-for-profit working in the Uttar Kannada district for two decades, focuses o Read moren enhancing children's learning levels. It established Chandana School and Chandana Crèche, using an innovative, child-centred approach in Narebail and KHB Centre Sirsi. Chandana School, a unique rural model, blends activities and education from early childhood to matriculation. Interactive science centres, libraries, and audio-visual aids enhance subject comprehension. The setup includes a Computer Centre, playground, open-air theatre, and well-ventilated classrooms to nurture children's skills. Primary education in the mother tongue is a key emphasis, aiming for holistic development irrespective of economic constraints. The Trust envisions a well-developed rural area with essential amenities and quality education, aiming to unlock children's potential in a child-centric atmosphere. It strives to create rural-friendly employment, transfer technology, build capacities through SHGs, trainings, and promote scientific teaching methods. Additionally, it advocates environmental awareness to conserve the Western Ghats' biodiversity, aiming to curb migration to urban areas while fostering sustainable rural growth.

Chandana School
Established in 2002 in Narebail, a disadvantaged village in Sirsi Taluka, Chandana is a school that offers creative, activity-based education. Operating various sections—Primary, Higher Primary, High School, and Pre-Primary—the institution prioritizes English-medium education. The Pre-Primary, inaugurated in collaboration with the Government of Karnataka, emphasizes holistic child development through playful learning. Additionally, the Chandana Science Centre, aided by the Deshpande Foundation, focuses on science training for both teachers and students, including a mobile library to engage government school students.

Other Programmes
It initiated EKALAVYA, funded by Kasturi Trust, Bangalore, aimed at offering affordable English Conversation and Computer Operation skills to unemployed graduates. The Rural Libraries in Golikoppa and Narebail function as rural information hubs, nurturing reading habits among the local population. Collaborations with the Akshara Foundation involve providing volunteers for their Remedial Programme for Slow Learners in Government schools. Additionally, in partnership with the Infosys Foundation, MEARDS contributes to distributing Library Books and Computers to Government schools. Teaming up with the Centre for Rural Studies (Manipal Academy), the organisation annually evaluates education quality in 30 revenue villages within the district under ASER.
