Community Awareness And Village Improvement or CAVI is an apolitical, non-governmental nonprofit organisation devoted to enhancing the physical, inte Read morellectual, socio-economic, and spiritual well-being of communities within Andhra Pradesh and Telangana States. The core objective is to bring about sustainable development and an improved quality of life for people. Its mission is rooted in humanitarianism, aiming to initiate enduring change for children, families, and communities living in poverty and under injustice, regardless of caste, creed, or colour. The vision revolves around the pursuit of social justice and peace for all community members. The organisation aspires to surpass expectations and provide world-class education, advance local education impact, ensure clean and safe drinking water access, promote lifelong learning, enhance knowledge, strengthen communities, preserve life in India, and combat hunger. It also focuses on the welfare and development of children, particularly aiding in liberating those engaged in child labour through collaboration with state authorities and civil society organisations. Moreover, CAVI commits itself to responsible resource management, emphasizing prudent utilization of human, natural, and financial resources.

Programs

  • Health and Nutrition Programme

CAVI addresses pressing health issues in marginalized rural areas, tackling problems related to poor sanitation, unhygienic practices, inadequate access to safe water, and limited healthcare resources. Its initiatives primarily target women of childbearing age and children under five, promoting family welfare, maternal and child care, nutrition, environmental sanitation, personal hygiene, immunization, and patient care. It also organises extensive health check-up camps in remote regions. CAVI's efforts extend to HIV/AIDS prevention, control, care, and support while advocating against stigma and discrimination. It provides livelihood support, nutrition, and educational supplies for affected families, occasionally distributing sarees and blankets through collaborative resources.

  • Women Empowerment Programme

CAVI places a strong emphasis on empowering women within community development. This process involves two key phases: firstly, encouraging women to form People's Organisations like Self-Help Groups, fostering their confidence to advocate for their rights. Secondly, CAVI focuses on enhancing women's skills, knowledge, and legal awareness, ensuring their active participation at all levels of community activities. The organisation also prioritizes the promotion of savings and credit mechanisms, granting women financial independence, confidence, and a prominent role within their families and communities, often facilitated through women-run Credit Societies and Micro-Credit Groups.

  • Water & Sanitation Programme

CAVI prioritizes water provision for drinking, domestic use, and agricultural/industrial purposes, aiding impoverished rural communities in constructing and renovating water sources and irrigation facilities. The organisation emphasizes the importance of safe drinking water, along with water source preservation, to ensure lasting improvements. Similarly, it addresses sanitation concerns by raising awareness of hygiene's significance and advocating for household and school toilets, drainage systems, and eco-friendly waste disposal solutions. These efforts, fostering hygiene practices, contribute to community dignity and rural development.

  • Emergency Response Programme

CAVI's core objective is comprehensive rural community development. However, frequent natural disasters, including tsunamis, cyclones, fires, and floods in the target regions, often necessitate immediate relief and recovery efforts. Immediate disaster relief encompasses healthcare restoration and temporary community relocation, supplementing government aid. Recovery and prevention measures include restoring livelihood structures, repairing community facilities, organising trauma counselling training, and providing emergency preparedness instruction in coastal areas.

  • Youth Empowerment Programme

Youth empowerment initiatives aim to enhance the well-being of disadvantaged or vulnerable youth by focusing on five key competencies: a positive self-image, self-discipline, decision-making abilities, a strong moral framework, and social connections. These programmes thrive in environments that foster positive youth development, which includes building their competence, confidence, and connections. Key elements of these nurturing environments include supportive relationships with non-familial adults that cultivate trust and respect, as well as enabling youth to actively participate in community change efforts and have their voices heard and respected by adults.

  • Food & Nutrition Programme

CAVI NGO operates a programme that furnishes disadvantaged HIV-positive individuals with essential nutrition to fortify them during intensive medical treatment and aid their recovery. A single donation supports a monthly ration kit for one such patient. Its outreach workers identify eligible recipients within Government hospitals where they receive Antiretroviral therapy (ART) and collaborate with ADP Plus, a network aiding HIV-positive individuals, for medication and awareness. This programme originally aimed to supply rations and protein supplements to HIV+ patients, including pregnant mothers, but has since evolved into a Nutritional Supplement Support Programme for those under ART treatment, affirming that an HIV+ status should not dictate a negative life.
