It was co-founded in 2007 by Pooja Warier and Richard Alderson, and registered as a non-profit (Section-8 company) in 2009 with the name ‘Social Entrepreneurs Foundation India’. The organisation goes through a process of application, interview by the in-house team and final screening by industry experts to accept or reject a proposal. It looks for four I’s in the organisation it is going to support i.e. • The “individual” who has to have business insight, committed to social change and is able to attract resources. • The “idea” should be attempting to resolve a social issue of the underprivileged section of society. • The “impact” should be sustainable for a long time. • “Incubation” wherein the entrepreneur should be open to advice by Unltd India. It is also promoting the handicrafts and products made by organisations it supports on its website and holds a 12A and 80G to provide tax exemption and also holds FCRA to accept foreign grants.
