Fairtrade India provides farmers with better trade conditions and improved prices. The improved prices and trading conditions provide farmers with bet Read moreter incomes with which they can invest in their future. The organisation offers consumers a way to improve the lives of farmers. Fairtrade offers wholesale products for cocoa, coffee, herbs, sugar, rice, spices, tea, cotton and edible oil. It also provides eco-friendly clothing, basmati rice and organic tea in retail. Fairtrade India helps farmers by providing them with stable minimum prices and a premium over and above the minimum price. Farmers can choose democratically how to use that premium. This premium has been used to create computer centres in some villages. The premium has also been used by farmers to fund solidarity loans for the most disadvantaged producers while some have used it for providing life insurance policies for workers. It also tries to protect the environment by encouraging farmers to adopt eco-friendly practices and discouraging the use of chemicals which are prohibited. The organisation has helped 1,21,400 farmers and workers in India and has generated a premium of Rs.19.40 crores in 2011-12.

  • Child Labour

    Works in the areas where children are involved in labour work and this helps to tackle the issue at a ground level. Collaborate with many different groups like farmers, workers, producer organisations, local governments, etc to prohibit child labour.

    Children under the age of 15 are not permitted to work for Fairtrade producer organizations, under the Fairtrade Standards.

    A person under the age of 18 cannot work in a position that endangers their education or development.
    are only permitted to assist on family farms under very specific restrictions. Age-appropriate work must be completed outside of school hours or on weekends.

    Small producer organizations are urged to incorporate a mitigation and elimination plan in areas where child labour is likely to occur.

    If a company has determined that child labour poses a risk, it must have policies and procedures in place to stop kids from working.
