HIV/AIDS-Targeted Intervention Project for truck drivers
Raising awareness about the risks of unsafe behaviour among truck drivers concerning sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and HIV/AIDS is a matter of great concern. In India, there are approximately 5 to 6 million truck drivers, with 40% of them engaged in long-distance journeys. The Project Area Satna is situated along NH-7, the longest National Highway in India. Additionally, NH-75 runs through Satna, connecting it to significant cities like Panna and Rewa in northern Madhya Pradesh. Long-distance truck drivers, comprising 2000 to 5000, 36% are clients of sex workers. Therefore, promoting condom usage to prevent STIs and HIV/AIDS, particularly when their knowledge about these diseases is limited or they are unaware of the consequences, becomes a vital component of socio-economic development efforts.
Milestones & Track Record
GKSSS has published monitoring reports on the performance of NREGS in Madhya Pradesh and conducted an impact assessment study of MANREGS in the state.
