About
The chief focus of the organisation is to provide legal assistance in gaining asylum to women and children in conflict zones, like Syria and Afghanist Read morean. Apart from this, Migration and Asylum Project(MAP) also lobbies for improvement and transparency in the RSD( Refugee Status Determination) process. It is a women-led organisation with an all-women staff. MAP has provided legal help to 2000 people seeking asylum. It works on legal empowerment, financial inclusion, refugee policy and advocacy to help women in conflict zones. It serves as a first point of contact for refugees and provides legal counselling to them. Apart from this, it provides special attention to people who have suffered torture. It also raises legal awareness among women of the refugee community so that crimes committed against them do not go unreported and are addressed. The organisation also helps refugees continue their traditions in the asylum providing country, leading to women empowerment. MAP conducts research on the impact of government schemes, like demonetization, on refugees. It has also helped parliamentarians in drafting the Asylum Bill, which was successfully passed in 2015. It also conducts sessions and distributes pamphlets which dispel myths about refugees among the citizens, helping the refugee community in integrating with the local community. It also conducts refugee law workshops and seminars in law schools.
