Ankur Society For Alternatives In Education strives to empower youth and children with education and other initiatives to help them explore opportunit Read moreies to support themselves and lead a life of dignity. It aims to build on the intellectual and social life of the marginalised community to help them adjust better to changes owing to urban development surrounding them. It conducts capacity building workshops in areas of child rights, education, gender, peace and conflict resolution. The Society collaborates with government schools, educational bodies and institutions of higher education through class-room intervention, curriculum design, resource support, material development, teacher training and policy deliberations. Ankur participates in various conferences, events and networks to advocate for the rights of children, women and the marginalised. It currently works in five workers settlements namely LNJP Coloy, Khichripur, Sunder Nagri, Dakshin Puri, Savda Ghevra through programs such as the Learning Collective, Club, Library, Young Women’s Collective, Mohalla Media Lab, Community Archives and Mehfils. The programmes imbibe the sense of creative expression and skill learning while encouraging children and youth to express themselves without any fear and compulsion. The programmes help facilitate speaking, listening, writing and reading skills in an collectively engaged manner. The children are able to freely discuss their ideas and make new connections. The collaborative practice of the collective initiatives helps build both individual and collective skill and expression.

  • Children's Programme

    In engaging with children, Ankur program refrains from viewing them solely through a lens of deficiency, instead focusing on leveraging their inherent knowledge and utilizing their neighborhoods as valuable learning resources. The program serves as a co-traveler in the storytelling journey, emphasizing reflection, narration, and imagination to foster the exploration and demonstration of children's potential. The Learning Collective (6-10 years) provides an open space for children to celebrate curiosity, spontaneity, and self-creation, fostering learning experiences through peer interaction. Meanwhile, the Club (10-14 years) and Library (10-14 years) initiatives aim to affirm children's narratives, offering spaces for creative expression, storytelling, and active reading, thereby revitalizing intellectual life within the community while nurturing a passion for learning beyond traditional educational confines.

  • Youth Programme

    In Ankur's efforts to empower young men and women from working-class backgrounds, the focus is on creating spaces for self-learning and critical dialogue. The goal is to cultivate confident individuals who are deeply connected to their surroundings, capable of shaping their own destinies and contributing positively to their communities. Through initiatives like the Young Women’s Collective (14-24 years), which emphasizes peer networking and creative expression to foster self-respect and assertiveness, and the Mohalla Media Labs (14-24 years), providing opportunities for digital media engagement and local storytelling, Ankur endeavors to equip youth with the skills and confidence needed to navigate life's challenges and pursue their aspirations.
