Since
1999
CHIKITSA is a charitable trust registered in 1999. It currently provides free primary health care (free consultations and free medicines) to nearly 10 Read more0,000 patients annually out of 2 base clinics and 7 mobile clinics in Delhi-NCR, using locations provided to us free by local bodies or community organisations. Our primary motivation is to see that people who cannot afford primary health care do not delay their treatment due to lack of money, sometimes leading to unfortunate results. CHIKITSA has gone through a number of models before zeroing in on what it finds to be the most effective one for tackling the health challenges of the needy in urban India. The unique feature of our operations is that we use locations provided to us free by local bodies or community organisations, thus vastly reducing our overhead costs and freeing up funds to treat more patients. CHIKITSA was started twenty years ago as a community health initiative by General OP Malhotra (Retd), PVSM. Our first free CHIKITSA clinic, at Sector 12, RK Puram, New Delhi, served nearby slum dwellers from premises provided by the local Gauri Shankar Mandir. This initiative was taken in response to needs voiced to us by local slum dwellers as to their most pressing concern that was not being properly addressed due to paucity of funds. In cooperation with Kiwanis Club of New Delhi, we also provide free artificial limbs (Jaipur Foot, Pune Foot, etc) at our base clinic in Sector 40, Gurgaon.. By providing free, quality primary healthcare, CHIKITSA also helps reduce the burden from an already overcrowded and stressed government secondary and tertiary level public health system.
