Kalyani Animal Welfare Foundation has been founded with the main objective of giving a life-long rehabilitation of those animals that are unable to su Read morervive on road. The organization started its journey on 4th February, 2010 with 25 destitute dogs and cats that needed rehabilitation. Today the sanctuary houses more than 120 destitute animals that are either old, or handicapped or paralyzed or aggressive. These animals need life-time care, medical attention and a lot of love and affection to survive.
Issue
When we have started, the animal welfare NGOs were mostly running veterinary hospitals; there were hardly any rehabilitation center in Delhi and NCR region in India where the needy animals can get a life-time secured HOME to live and thrive. If a stray animal meets with an accident on road, it could be admitted to those hospitals, but after recovery, if it comes back as handicapped losing its limb or eye, it had to go back to street with more threats to its life. Kalyani Animal Welfare Foundation tried to provide a safe, secured and loving place for these animals. Further, we have noticed that there are several abandoned pets who are either old, handicapped, paralyzed or suffering from terminal illness like, cancer, organ failure etc. The owners no longer want to keep them because these pets need a lot of care and medication. We, at our sanctuary, try to give them a better life, treatment and medical care.
Action
Ever since its inception, Kalyani Animal Welfare Foundation has saved several lives by not only feeding and medicating them, but also providing a safe and secured place to live and thrive. The most important among them perhaps has been the recovery of accidental paralysis. While many hospitals recommend that these animals should be put to sleep, we have successfully cured several of them. We also have cured many terminal illness in dogs like cancer and organ failure with the help of our panel of veterinarians. Our sanctuary also houses several old animals who suffer from age-related ailments like blindness, arthritis and so on. Our Foundation not only gives them a safe place to live, but also provides all medical needs and the essential love and care they deserve. We also keep a number of handicapped animals who have zeal to live. Among them there are permanently paralyzed ones, blind, lame as well as animals with epileptic disorders and cerebral disorders. Apart from housing needy animals, we also provide free treatment and vaccination to all the strays and the local Indian breed pets of the neighboring poor villagers.
