The Rugmark Foundation was found to make people aware of the child labour exploitation in the carpet industry. The aim was to help consumers buy respo Read morensibly. The Rugmark Foundation is an association for all carpet and rug manufactures, which get their products 'Rugmark' certified, which implies that the manufacturing does not involve any child labour. Rugmark, since 1995, has collaborated with The Indian Carpet Association in Mirzapur, NGOs and Governmental organisations to put end child labour in the industry. Today, Rugmark has 300 licensees in India. 30 companies from Germany exclusively import Rugmark carpets. Up to 2000, there were 2 million rugmark labelled carpets, and up to 2010, the figure was close to 6 million carpets. Rugmark Foundation also has a social welfare wing which focusses on the education of the freed child labour. There are 7 Rugmark Schools and Balashrays in Uttar Pradesh which have a total strength of 2278. Some other projects include a carpet weaving centre for women in Gopiganj in Bhadohi started in 2002. Mobile Health Clinic, a van, equipped with basic health facilities which came to effect in 2003 for children of Rugmark Schools and villagers. A camp for disabled persons for distribution for aids, medicines and artificial limbs happened on 19th December 2003 & 10th February 2004; 17th May 2004 & 26th August 2004. Social Welfare and Rehabilitation
StateThe children who are taken out of the carpet weaving industry and the offspring of low-income carpet weavers receive education, rehabilitation, and medical treatment from the RUGMARK Foundation (India). It manages several community development initiatives and supports community-based rehabilitation.
In 1996, RUGMARK established its first elementary school in Baribisa, Jagapur. Since then, RUGMARK has established numerous schools and Balashryas (rehabilitation centres) around the carpet belt to aid in the rehabilitation of young weavers who were either born into carpet weavers or had been released from the looms of RUGMARK licensees.

Education
StateNumerous schools, including RM Balashraya (the recovery centre), are run by the Foundation. Devnathpur-Lakhamanpatti, Bhodohi, Jagapur-Bhadohi, Barhi Newada-Varanasi, Handia-Allahabad, Cherapur-Bhadohi, and Vijaypur-Mirzapur are the locations of the schools.
These instructional facilities are now being utilised by around 2300 pupils. These schools represent a significant advancement in meeting the educational requirements of kids from households that weave carpets.
To keep them out of the cycle of child work, the children of carpet weavers are allowed to attend the schools. There has always been a serious risk that parents may send their children to work at a young age due to the socioeconomic considerations associated with the sector.
