We want children across government schools to thrive. They thrive through powerful learning experiences. We believe teachers who are highly skilled, l Read moreoving and intuitive can transform a student’s learning experience. At SEF, we are working with governments to build state-wide training programs for school teachers, to make learning in public schools across India more engaging and impactful for children. Our programs are centered around addressing specific teaching and learning needs we identify in the local regions. We are co-designing processes and frameworks with government institutions and educators to help them implement and scale the programs by themselves in the long term. We are a team of trained educators having years of experience working in and with the public education system. Our goal is to use our learnings to build scalable programs that can strengthen current and future teachers across India. With the right skills and support, teachers can make the quality of student learning in government schools at par with the best schools in the country
Issue
When teachers create memorable learning experiences in the classroom, it helps students develop holistically, and grow into confident and capable young adults. In government schools, teachers often struggle to receive the right kind of training and support to attend to children’s needs and struggles. The budgetary allocation by the government on teacher development and training has decreased by 87% over the past 10 years* Several limitations lead to staffing issues, overworked employees, and highly under-resourced teaching and management teams. It creates a ripple effect of challenges across the public education system.* On an individual level, teachers need a combination of support: motivation to teach better, continued learning and mentoring through their career, and access to relevant professional skills, to create more enriching learning experiences. At a classroom level, the teaching practices need to be upgraded to what’s relevant in today’s world, and the resources and tools have room for improvement. Students' challenges are constantly evolving, and teachers are looking for support to understand how to adapt and help them effectively. From our conversations with the Govt bodies, we have learned that at a systems level, there is a need to have a more holistic, strategic vision for professional educator development. The current training curriculums have a one-size-fits-all approach that do not address the several need gaps that teachers face.* The overall professional development programs designed for educators are relatively outdated. Thousands of current and future teachers in the state government system are looking for better support. Educators across each region have their own hyperlocal needs and challenges to address. Our goal is to build skills and resilience in educators at scale, in a collaborative, organised and sustainable manner.
