JVS has been working in the direction of social development for years, but it took us quite a long time for it to take the shape of an organisation. D Read moreown through the years, our area in and around Varanasi as well as other geographical areas where VPIMS is active, witnessed this ‘band-aid’ development which could not heal the wounds of exploitation, lopsided development and various discriminations. As a panacea to this age old problems faced by the poorest people, our pioneers developed a vision for a new society based on justice, equity and fullness of life for all. Thus came Jan Vikas Samiti (JVS) into existence and got registered as a social service society in 1997. Slowly, the organisation took roots in the city of light-Kashi (Varanasi), shining as a light in the darkness and brining many towards a life in its fullness. Since its inception, people’s organisation became the major thrust of the organisation where we focused on building some ‘social capital’. In 2006, JVS took a giant leap by joining hands with Stiching Liliane Foundation, Netherlands. JVS was made as the strategic partner organization of the SLF in North and North East India, widening its operational area, network and scope over 100 partner organization.

Women Empowerment
Jan Vikas Samiti is committed to promoting women's justice and equality by enabling disadvantaged women to transform society by improving their lives and means of subsistence. With the help of advantageous economic and social policies, JVS has created an environment that is favourable for women's overall development, allowing them to realise their full potential and have equal access to participation and decision-making.
JVS's all-encompassing strategy for women's empowerment includes social, political, and economic elements, improving the lives and means of subsistence of women in impoverished areas in measurable ways. To empower women in their farm-based and other entrepreneurial activities, Jan Vikas Samiti is actively working to organise them in Farmer Interest Groups (FIG), cooperative societies, and Farmers Producers Organisations (FPO).
